"I didn't come here just to smoke though, did I? Besides, quality cigarettes are an experience; you don't just smoke them for the hell of it."

Not that his current experience was worth savouring, but he needed something to keep his hands busy. Something that wouldn't make Leon hit him in the face again.

And there was always the off chance that Leon might want a drag off it at some point. A long shot perhaps, but it was there.

"Why do you think I'm here to harass you? I was looking for a quiet place to read, like I told you. It's hardly my fault that you chose to bed down on it." To prove his point, Avery slipped his book out of his bag and put it on his knee, opening it at a random page. He curled his arm around his book to shield it from the other boy's view.

"Most, not all," Avery clarified. "And by purebloods I'm assuming you mean your mother's line. I don't recall any pureblood families with the name Shaw back in England. Bit of a half-breed, are you? It's funny, I never thought the Eytinges would allow someone to muddy up their waters."

"An experience in slowly murdering your lungs? Yeah, savor that experience to the very last drop."

He put the cap back on the tequila bottle and dropped it by his bag with a bit of a huff. His quiet time was being interrupted, and it wasn't very pleasant. "I would think that after the other week, you'd think twice before coming to sit and read next to me." It wasn't like there weren't other places on campus to hide, smoke and read. "No professors out here to save you from getting your arse beat."

He laid back down, though, raising a brow at the book in Avery's hands for a brief moment. But then he was rolling his eyes. "Piss off. You don't know the first thing about the Eytinge. It isn't like the Valentine would have been invited rub elbows or the like."

"Says you with the bottle of..." What was that swill Leon was drinking again? "...liquor in your bag. At least I keep my unhealthy indulgences to a minimum. I can keep the same pack of twenty for weeks. I'm sure you're doing far more damage to your liver."

He blew some smoke in Leon's direction and smirked. When you had a strict monthly allowance, a pack of twenty had to last you several weeks...unless you wanted to slum it with the common brands, which Avery certainly did not.

"Perhaps I'm a fool for love," he replied, turning a couple of pages ahead in his book. "And I have a theory about your aggression towards me; it's a lot like the tree falling in the woods, isn't it? If I make a pass at Leon Shaw and nobody is around to see it, does he still pretend to be homophobic?"

Avery smiled to himself over that clever little line and flipped his book back, looking for Leon's family line. "I know enough, and what I don't know I'm sure I can find out from worthy sources." And it helped a lot when your family counted as one of those sources.

"Valentine is an American wizarding family, so obviously you won't have heard of it. The entire line is dead...well, apart from my family's little branch." Avery took another drag of his cigarette and looked down his nose at Leon. "Anyway, we're still purebloods. That's all that matters really."
mightbeclever From: [info]mightbeclever Date: March 22nd, 2011 07:21 pm (UTC) (Link)
"Well you're not my mum, so bugger off with it, yeah?" He grumbled, tossing an arm over his face as he closed his eyes. This way he couldn't watch Avery, he wouldn't let his guard down and...

"A what?" He blinked, pulling his arm away from his face and sitting up a bit. Did Avery really have some sort of 'thing' for him? His expression was a mix of skeptical and uncertain even as his eyes followed the cigarette to Avery's lips. Shit, he thought, swallowing a little before making a point to look away. Avery was just fucking with him, right? Like always? "You're a fucking twat. Get the fuck out of here before I stop playing nice."

It was safest thing for both of them. He really didn't want to end up with detention, or in prison.

"Heh. Whatever. You can read, or talk to people about them all you like. Never going to be like them. And if you want to be an American pureblood, you go right on. Because my 'half-blood' is still better than yours."
From: [info]iliketokissboys Date: March 22nd, 2011 07:54 pm (UTC) (Link)
"And you're not mine, so perhaps you shouldn't lecture me on my bad habits either." Not that his mummy would ever chastise him over smoking; she'd introduced him to it, after all, so how could she really go back on it now?

Avery finished his cigarette and stubbed it out on the ground. Snapping his book shut, he reached into his bag for a mint. Tasting like an ashtray was never de rigueur.

"Perhaps, Leon, I don't want you to play nice," he purred and shifted a bit closer. "If you were nice then I wouldn't be interested."

He smiled at the other boy, letting his gaze drift down Leon's body before heading back up to meet his eyes again. "You're a half-breed, you'll never be better than me. And it's only my name that's American. I'm not one of them, you know."
mightbeclever From: [info]mightbeclever Date: March 22nd, 2011 08:05 pm (UTC) (Link)
"Suck it," he grunted, scowling a little. "I wasn't lecture you, I was just saying." Fuck all if he knew why he'd even bothered to open his mouth though.

But the moment Avery moved closer, his eyes darted to the boy with a certain amount of dread. Did he really know Leon was gay? Was there some secret code that he put off and wasn't aware of? And worst still, some small part of him wanted Avery to try something. But why? Why Avery? Michi was right, though, he was handsome. The curl of his lips was sweet, his hair looked soft, and his eyes looked hungry...

Fuck, Leon thought as he tore his eyes away from the other boy. He cleared his throat a little before he spoke again, swallowing a bit. "Then I'll be nice a pup, and hope you'll get bored and go away." He promised, his voice a bit thicker than it had been.

"Tch, I don't care about blood, Avery. It is a waste of time. Besides, all purebloods in England are inbred."
From: [info]iliketokissboys Date: March 22nd, 2011 08:39 pm (UTC) (Link)
"Get it out and I will," he grinned. "You were just saying? Are you looking out for my health now, Shaw? Just the other day you wanted me to jump off the roof..."

Oh, so Leon wanted to play this game, did he? Be boring and hope that the rampant homosexual leaves you alone. Well that might work if said rampant homosexual didn't know which buttons to press to get a reaction out of you. Leon had no such luck.

"Well if you think that's all it takes to get rid of me, then you're welcome to try." Avery leaned in so that there was no more than a couple of inches between their lips. "But personally, I don't think it's going to work."

There was a moment when he almost closed the gap between them but he stopped short at the word 'inbred', shifting into a scowl. "I am not inbred," Avery spat. "How dare you say that! Just because some families believe in marrying cousins doesn't mean that all of them do it. How dare you."

Avery shoved Leon against the ground. "Filthy half-breed. What would you know about proper wizarding families anyway."
mightbeclever From: [info]mightbeclever Date: March 22nd, 2011 09:18 pm (UTC) (Link)
"I don't want to get it out. I don't know where your mouth has been. I don't want my dick to get herpes." He said with a smirk. Times like this were good, he was on a roll.

"Oh, that so? And what are you going to do? Kiss me?" Whatever Avery's threats were going to be, it was quick to see that his jab about purebloods being inbred hit home. It made him laugh even as he was shoved into the ground. "Going to kiss me with those inbred lips? Was your mum your dad's cousin?"

If Avery had, had any hope of defending his heritage, it was lost. Only people with something to hide reacted like that...

"Aww, what's wrong? Not going to cry are you?"
From: [info]iliketokissboys Date: March 23rd, 2011 06:19 pm (UTC) (Link)
"Just SHUT UP! You're French, you probably already have herpes! I'm not going to have it, I'm not like your dirty, horrible people!"

He picked up his book and threw it at Leon.

"You know nothing about my family! Nothing! If you had any idea who they were or what they were capable of..." he trailed off.

Eytinge or no Eytinge, telling Leon his real family heritage would only give the boy more to hold against him. There was no reason why Leon wouldn't tell the school about it.

"They're not related, so just shut up," Avery snarled.
mightbeclever From: [info]mightbeclever Date: March 23rd, 2011 06:43 pm (UTC) (Link)
He laughed again, before biting back on it and smiling at Avery. Despite having a book thrown at him, the conversation wasn't going so bad, yeah? And, in truth, watching Avery pout about was...cute. He looked so much younger when he acted like that.

"Alright, alright...lips are sealed." He was smug though, as he picked up the book from where it had landed. Curiously, he opened it up, peering down at the pages a bit passively.

"Reading about dark witches and wizards, huh?" Flipping to the index, he ran his thumb down and then across to the page number after finding his mother's family name. Thumbing through the pages, he glanced up at Avery a moment, then frowned. "Are you really upset about that inbred thing? Because, you know, my Meme wanted me to marry a first cousin. All about diluting the English 'mudblood' in my veins."
From: [info]iliketokissboys Date: March 23rd, 2011 07:04 pm (UTC) (Link)
How did you fight against someone who'd rather sit there laughing? Avery huffed and flicked his hair out of his eyes as he tried to look serious about the matter.

But then Leon was flicking through his book, glancing at the entries. "It's just an interesting subject, that's all. Not that I want to be a dark wizard or anything ridiculous like that, I just...well you have to wonder why they did all of those things when all it bought them was death or a life in prison."

Avery lifted his chin a little. "It's very rude to suggest things like that about people. Like I said, not all pureblood families are willing to go to those lengths to preserve their bloodlines. Some of my aunts and uncles are single; they were never forced to marry cousins."

Not that it had always been that way in the Flynn bloodline, but Leon didn't need to know about that. Tilting his head slightly, Avery locked his gaze with Leon's. "Why didn't you?"
mightbeclever From: [info]mightbeclever Date: March 23rd, 2011 07:13 pm (UTC) (Link)
"I didn't say otherwise," he countered, finally flipping to a page on one of his forefathers. It was easy to see the Eytinge features, even Leon sported them. The high cheeks, the stern, icy eyes. They even had the same scowl, he noted, as the picture moved about. "And they did it for power, mostly. Because they could, or thought it was the right thing to do." He shrugged, flipping the page as he yawned a little.

"It isn't rude," he went on, though, glancing up at Avery. "And you can claim that your family hasn't intermarried all you like, but I won't buy it until I see the family tree myself."

Turning back to the book, he flicked through a few more pages with a disinterested sort of frown. "I didn't marry her, if you must know, because I was nine, and she had the voice of maul in heat."
From: [info]iliketokissboys Date: March 23rd, 2011 07:34 pm (UTC) (Link)
"There are better ways of getting what you want, ones that don't don't include using unforgivables," he replied. "I think they were all sloppy, in that respect. They let their hungers get the better of them and didn't notice how careless they all were. Which they must've been, if they were caught."

Now it was Avery's turn to frown. "Of course it's rude! You don't just bring this sort of thing up in polite conversation. Nobody wants to be reminded of how proper wizards are dying out in our part of the world."

Avery looked down, picking at the fabric of his trousers. He was just...not going to dignify that with a response. After all, there was nothing wrong with first cousins marrying, was there?

"Oh," he replied, mentally adding and because she's a girl to the end of it. "I take it she hasn't improved with age."
mightbeclever From: [info]mightbeclever Date: March 23rd, 2011 08:09 pm (UTC) (Link)
"Maybe, but would you have said no to Voldemort? Or someone else like him?" Leon shrugged. He was fully aware that his leanings on the matter were contrary to most other people's. "Doesn't matter really. So long as it isn't you."

Closing the book, he rolled his eyes a little before looking at Avery. "Fine, sorry. Want me to kiss it better too?" It was out of his mouth before he'd fully thought the comment through. The lightest hint of blush hit his cheeks, then, as he turned away from the other boy and cleared his throat.

"Yeah, well. She's not really my type either." He said with some sort of finality to the comment. He didn't want to talk about his cousin anymore.
From: [info]iliketokissboys Date: March 23rd, 2011 08:42 pm (UTC) (Link)
"Personally I wouldn't have bothered with him. Murder's so uncivilised." And besides, who wanted to follow someone that didn't even have their own nose anymore?

The flush was hard to miss. Avery shuffled nearer and leaned into the older boy's neck, watching his profile for a reaction.

"If you want to," he offered. "There's no one around to see..."

Avery was more than happy to let the talk about Leon's cousin drop. After all, neither of them were really interested in girls much, were they?
mightbeclever From: [info]mightbeclever Date: March 24th, 2011 02:01 pm (UTC) (Link)
"He would have probably killed my dad, if we hadn't left." After the ministry had, basically, fallen to Voldemort, muggle-born witches and wizards were prey. But that was in the past, and didn't matter all that much anymore.

And when Avery inched closer, all concern for the previous conversation fled. His eyes cut to the side, wide and a bit uncertain. 'If you want to'? Was this a trick?

Clearing his throat, Leon glanced away again and frowned. "Even if I did, why would you want me to?" He asked, fidgeting nervously. It was a set up. It had to be. After all the shit he'd given Avery over the years, how could the boy not be out for a little pay back?

"Shouldn't you hate me by now?"
From: [info]iliketokissboys Date: March 24th, 2011 06:07 pm (UTC) (Link)
"My family never joined, but I think they approved of his ideas at least. Getting rid of muggle-borns is always going to get the approval of purebloods."

A smile found its way to his lips as Leon tried not to look at him. Avery crept a bit closer, so that his breath hit the older boy's neck when he spoke.

"Shouldn't you hate me by now? I give as much as I get, Leon. Always have, and I suppose I always will. And you're so easy to wind up, which is part of the reason why I can't possibly hate you. You're far too much fun when you're angry."

Avery reached out to touch Leon's shoulder, letting his fingers wander down Leon's arm. "I also think that we're very much the same underneath, more so than you might think. And of course, I find you quite attractive..."
mightbeclever From: [info]mightbeclever Date: March 24th, 2011 06:18 pm (UTC) (Link)
"...A winning attitude, that. You were all muggle-born at some point." It wasn't as if magic created them, after all. More like...evolved talent, magic. "If you look far enough back, at least."

Still, his jaw clenched as Avery moved even closer, goosebumps rising up where the boy's breath danced over his skin. It was toxic, and intoxicating at the same time, and it took everything he had to not shutter a little at the feelings it brought out of him.

"I do hate you, you fucking poof. Or did you miss that part?" Though he'd lost some of the conviction. Was something wrong with him? This was not the sort of reaction he wanted to have.

Though it was increasingly hard to deny some truth to the conversation. A part of him did want to kiss a boy. But kiss Avery? He wasn't sure of that one just yet.

"You saying you want to kiss me, you little fag? Have some sort of hard on for me, or something?" He turned to look at the other boy with a determined frown on his face, hands balling into fist at the touch of Avery's hand. "Want to get into my pants right now?"
From: [info]iliketokissboys Date: March 24th, 2011 06:41 pm (UTC) (Link)
"Well excuse me for telling the truth. It's not as though I could lie, is it?" He sighed and brushed his hair back. "I can trace my family back centuries, and before that they were probably just a part of another pureblood family. How far back are you going with this nonsense?"

And with the barest of touches, the Leon that Avery had been talking to was swept away, only to be replaced by Leon the Homophobe. All chances of having a meaningful conversation had been lost; they were back to playing out their love/hate game again. As always.

What a shame.

"You don't hate me. You say that you hate me, which is a completely different thing," he pointed out. "And I just said that I thought you were attractive, didn't I? Obviously I want to shag you. What would be the point if in fancying you if I didn't want a fuck?"
mightbeclever From: [info]mightbeclever Date: March 24th, 2011 07:05 pm (UTC) (Link)
"Forget it." He said with a huff, flopping down to the ground again with a bit of a surly expression. The whole matter was just a giant bother anyway, what was the point? It wasn't like any pureblood like Avery would care about someone like his father.

Swallowing, he moved his arm away from Avery crossing both over his chest as he chewed on his lip. Maybe the mangy mutt had a point. Maybe he was hoping he would hate someone like Avery if he said it enough. He knew he hated how open Avery was with his sexuality, and how...flamboyant he was. But was that it?

"So you want to shag me," he said after a moment, mulling it over in his head with a moody expression. "You've shagged other boys, then? Not just wanked off to porn on the computer, or something?" Leon certainly never had done either of those. He still wasn't brave enough to look at that sort of thing...well, not more than a picture or two. That stupid magazine he'd gotten for a Secret Santa had proven more...useful than he'd like to admit.

Sitting up again he, he unfolded his arms and pointed a bit accusingly at the other boy. "I have a girlfriend, you know. Isn't like I'm just going to go shagging people like you."
From: [info]iliketokissboys Date: March 24th, 2011 07:36 pm (UTC) (Link)
Avery grinned. "Well of course I've shagged other boys. You don't really think I can pass for a wide eyed virgin, do you?" He laughed a little, not even waiting for an answer to his question. "I lost that last summer, but even before it happened I was far from innocent."

Why did it matter who he'd slept with? He wasn't coming back to that herpes comment, was he? Or was his statement a serious consideration?

"Perhaps you should. Perhaps not shagging people like me is your problem." As manly as she was, Addy was still female. That can't have been much fun in the bedroom, not when Leon secretly (or not so secretly) preferred cock.

"Perhaps," Avery purred, "you should find out what you're missing."

He didn't give the older boy much time to consider an answer before pressing his mouth to Leon's to steal a kiss.
mightbeclever From: [info]mightbeclever Date: March 24th, 2011 08:13 pm (UTC) (Link)
He had something to say, but whatever it was died the moment warm lips pressed against his own. For a moment everything stood still, in the story book way that often spoke of 'that first kiss'. It was electric, and horrifying at the same time. He sat frozen, unsure of what to do even as his heart began to beat wildly.

Push him away, push him away... a part of his mind argued, while another hissed with excited enjoyment. He couldn't decide, he couldn't figure out what he needed to listen to...

And in the end, a hand reached up as Avery started to pulled away. His fingers brushed lightly over the other boy's soft skin gingerly, as if he'd never before touched another person. Closing the small gap between them, their lips met for a second time.
From: [info]iliketokissboys Date: March 24th, 2011 08:45 pm (UTC) (Link)
And so he'd kissed his enemy, and his enemy had kissed back. Avery felt a rush of adrenaline as he locked lips with Leon for a second time. He'd been almost certain that the other boy would pull away.

Slowly, Avery slipped his arms around Leon's shoulders, knotting them against the back of his neck. Of course he kissed back, but perhaps not as hungrily as he wanted to; it wouldn't do to overwhelm Leon now in case he backed off again. The tip of Avery's tongue brushed ever so slightly against Leon's lips as he pulled himself nearer, leaning into the hand pressed against his cheek.
mightbeclever From: [info]mightbeclever Date: March 24th, 2011 09:36 pm (UTC) (Link)
He did part his lips, just a bit at first, testing the grounds as it were. It was really no different than kiss any one else. Avery's lips were as warm as Adelaide's, his skin was as soft. It was firmer, but...better.

Shit, he thought to himself, before breaking off that kiss and pulling away. Had he really just done that? Had he really just kissed a boy out on the quodpot field?

"Merde," he repeated in French, looking away from Avery as he pulled his hand away...but he made no effort to untangle himself from the boy's grasp. Instead he sat there, looking as confused about everything as he felt.

Was he really doing this? Right now?
From: [info]iliketokissboys Date: March 24th, 2011 10:03 pm (UTC) (Link)
Avery licked his lips and looked at Leon. He...didn't seem anywhere near as relieved as Avery had been upon experiencing his first gay kiss. If anything it appeared to have given Leon less of an understanding of his sexuality than he had before it happened.

"What's the matter?" he asked quietly. "You wanted to, didn't you? You kissed me back."

Pressing a kiss to Leon's cheek, Avery offered him a small smile. "It was nice."
