Prelude for JLI
Max scowled at the reports. Phantoms, Vampires, Robots, Monsters. A veritable Saturday Morning Cartoon full of trochee-termed cliched freaks. And not a helpful hero in sight. So many of them didn't even take his calls these days. Almost made one want to go back into the business.

...It really did almost make one want to go back into the business. So many of the younger set seemed to get along with Cindy. Maybe they'd be more willing to be civil in order to deal with deal with problems like this.

"Sweetie? I need your Rolodex."
"Dad, I don't have a Rolodex. I have an iPhone."
"Same thing, sweetie."

And the messages start going out.

	Cliff heard his phone go off with the sound of Under Cover of Darkness by The Strokes. He checked it to see the message he got sent. It wasn't any number he knew, but he read through it anyway. Max Lord was asking him to help... fight people? That sounded awesome! But his parents would take some major convincing... He'd talk to them. (Reply to this)

Picnic lunch? Okay, he was kinda old-fashioned, but Avia had to admit, she couldn't remember being treated better than she's been since she started dating Will.

Her phone vibrated and she reluctantly picked it up. Her business line was different than this phone; anyone who had it was someone important.

"Rap with me," she said.

"Uh-huh. Really. ...Major-league bummer. ...Yes, he's here too, actually. ...I'll see what we can do. No promises. No, that kind of guilt doesn't work on me."

She turned to Will as she closed her phone. "Well. Interesting."

	Will knew that the phone Avia used wasn't her normal one. That was her important one. So he was expecting something involving her family. He'd be more than willing to help, but when he's mentioned he's now rather curious. "Avia? What's going on?" (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

Jai West is not back in the hero business, even if he is beating up a trio of muggers just now. He doesn't have a new costume yet, so he vibrates his molecules fast enough to blur his features so that no one can tell who he is.

Kid Flash lives on the West Coast and that's all Jai has to say about it.

His phone rings and he heads home before picking it up on the second ring.

Why the hell did Maxwell Lord have his number?

"Sorry, I'm not much of a joiner these days." Jai says.

Max says something else.

"Look, sorry, I'm not interested." Jai says again.

Max says one more thing and /that/ gets Jai's attention.

"All right, I'll come and hear you out and then make my decision." Jai says.

He breezes out the door again.

Chrissy was out shopping, enjoying an off day when her phone rang.

"Jordan," she said.

"...How did you get this number?"

"I'm not listening to anything you have to say to me before you tell me how you got this number."

"You need me to do what?"

"I'm sorry, but telling me 'I just need you to do it is not a good business proposition."

"Fine. I'll listen to what you have to say, but that doesn't mean I'm actually going to do it."

Chrissy activated her ring and flew off to where Maxwell Lord told her to meet him.

Maura had literally just returned to planet Earth when her phone rang. Not recognizing the number, she ignored the call but literally within seconds of the attempted call ending the text messages started coming through.

Messages from Maxwell Lord. She'd lived in this dimension long enough for that to get an eyebrow raised and it was that same skepticism that prompted Maura to change course and head for Lord's. It was unlikely that Dex would notice she wasn't back anyway and if Lord was up to something, it was her job to check it out.

Huh.... Max was calling. That was unusual. At first, Petra assumed it was just something cross-brand related that he needed to get in touch with her dad for, but Guy wasn't even mentioned.

What was that phrase that salad-head said his boss described Max as?

'The Lords are a lot like the timestream. There's some points you know you can count on, but you'd better keep a really close watch on the fine details.'

What the hell? She smirked to herself as she shot into the sky.
