Checking on the home team
Commander Fontaine, Deputy Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., made the rounds when the special ops team came back in. After their last disastrous outing, she wanted to make sure they were still in one cohesive piece. The reports had been favorable.

She hadn't met the newest member yet, though she knew the contents of his file. She'd been the one to have it sent to Sammy for consideration. Her little gun nut, and Walker and Dugan, could always use someone with the ability to build a better gun.

Sammy's report had been terse but informative. The others' a little more informative. Landon was next on her list.

"You don't want me to cook, either. I can make a passable omelet that would keep you from starving, but you'd have to sacrifice fluffy and tasty to choke it down." She moved closer to him for the warmth since she hadn't thought about changing out of her pajamas. "I agree we go out for breakfast. Would this be another place that'll let me beat up on a local for name calling?"

	Tech laughs. "Oh, Ah don't think so, /Nikita/. Ah'm pretty sure no one in this town wants to get beat up on after what happened to Stevie Ray. But, we'll still find good food anyway." Tech says. Tech hums the theme from "Psycho" for Sam's benefit, suppressing a smile. He also notes that her Glock is the luckiest Glock ever made. Which reminds him...

"Thank you for the reminder. Ah need to get my own gun so Ah'm not unarmed in case of emergency." Tech tells her, getting up to open the door for her to enter the house again.

"Ah'll make sure Mr. Hates has fresh towels ready for you, too." he grins.

Sammy made a face at him. "I refused to shower alone in the bathroom for a week when I saw that movie. I think I was seven at the time. Maybe eight.. After Mom found out, I had a new nanny and my very first Glock. After that, nothing scared me in a movie."

She paused before entering the house. "Make sure you have your S.H.I.E.L.D. ID on you. It's also a permit to carry."

"Hey, I was taking lessons at the range by then. If I ever have kids, yours will be perfectly safe unless they start something." She tapped his shoulder in a parody of a chest poke. "of course, if they start something, mine will finish it. That's what Furys are about."

And just because she could, she kissed him quick before sashaying herself up the stairs for her shower. It was her turn for the last word.

	It didn't take Sammy long. She wasn't a primper and usually too much in a hurry to bother with makeup. Twenty minutes after she went up the stairs she was heading back down while straightening her shirt and carrying the shoulder harness and Glock. "Ready?" she called. 	Tech did his best to be presentable, even combing his hair so that it stayed in one place. He emerges from his room dressed in jeans, a shirt and a brown leather jacket with brown boots. 	There would be plenty of talk again, Sammy figured, now that the story of Tech and his gun totin' girlfriend would have made the rounds. Sure didn't get this in New York. She waited at the bottom of the porch steps for him to lock up. "Ribs are feeling better," she asked. When she made her report later, she'd have to give an update on his condition. "It was kind of tough in some ways, easy in others. If you did something wrong at breakfast, everyone in town knew by dinner. This is a small town, so lots of rumors go about. Still, when you're with your friends at the pond, or out shootin' the breeze at a bonfire, those are some good times." Tech says.

"This place has been here for nearly 300 years. Started out a stop-off for traders before headin' East, North or West. It never got too far out of its infancy, but it found a niche." he says. He then gestures to the woodlands around them.

"The woods here are nice at night, when the bonfires happen in the Fall." Tech says.

	"It sounds like a great place to be a kid. Do you plan to move back some day? Building a proper lab wouldn't be that hard." She turned on the radio as an experiment and set the tuner to search. "Ah've thought about it, but...Ah can't move back here alone. Ah have my family's land to look after, but a house is just a house without a family to make it a home." Tech says, his tone thoughtful and considering.

"Ah'd like to be able to show my kids the pond Ah went to every Summer, or where my Grandpa taught me to use a gun. It would even be worth workin' on the helicarrier from time to time." he says.

"Two houses, wide open spaces and places for all the kids to play while Ah work in the work shop and the wife does whatever she does. Ah don't come fro the school of thought that says women belong in the kitchen. However, it's hard to find a woman who'd willingly settle for livin' in a place like Bon Temps if she wasn't born here.

A lot of the city girls would lose their minds if they spent more than day here. So, Ah'll have to find someone who doesn't mind at least stayin' here every now and again." Tech says.

"From your pretty lips to God's ears, Sam." Tech smiles. Somewhere out there was a girl like that, and maybe he'd find her out on a mission someday. Or maybe during an electronics expo.

That second one had some serious promise to it and he resolved to check for the next big electronics expo coming up.

"What about you? What sort of guy could you see yourself with? Would he be happy on the helicarrier or would he not be involved in The Life at all? If Ah can ask, I mean."

"What I want is what my parents have. They don't look it, but they've been together for more than forty years. Sure, they both have S.H.I.E.L.D. in common, but they mesh so well. If I was planning for long term, I'd want someone who's life I can enhance, who enhances mine. In the life, but it doesn't have to be exactly what I do. It's a huge organization. Mom just happens to be second in command. As long as there is someone to go home to, now matter where home is, that will satisfy me." She shook her head a little. "But not a lot of guys in the life will play second to the job, and it requires commitment."

"Family land is a lot. It says there's a permanence for the future. I grew up in a penthouse owned by S.H.I.E.L.D. Our traditions are S.H.I.E.L.D. and public service. And it's still the only thing I ever wanted to do, but I don't want to do it alone. I will if I have to, but I can hope, and maybe I can have forty or fifty years with someone."

She laughed a little. "I don't know about kids, though. If I had to deal with me as a child, I don't know that I could have survived."
