Small animals make everything more fun...right?

He'd been polite and had even used that knocking-spell Orlen had set up on her place to get permission before teleporting in. He didn't really see the point of it really, but if that was what people wanted...alright then.

Currently he was set up on her living room floor, sitting there and showing off new minor spells he'd been practicing. As if the poor archer's place didn't have enough magic in it, here he was infusing extra in the air. "May I have something to drink please?" Magic was thirsty work and one did not manage to make her books dance to The Black Keys without needing a refreshment. Disney had it right, musicals were best with normally inanimate objects.

The spell was great for having a warning before sudden and exuberant guests arrived, or putting them on hold as things like... pants were found.

Currently Martin was showing off the latest spells he had learnt to master, with Frances aptly oohing and ahhing, asking details just to clarify how or what was happening. She smirked and stood up, side-stepping her collection of fun reads to hunt him down some iced tea. "No milkshake, just iced tea. Sorry, Pip," she explained and put the cup down near him while nearly whacking her head on a coffee table hard cover.

He thought it was a silly spell still but he'd respect it. It was always good to stay in the good graces of those who bought you milkshakes.

"Thank you," he smiled and appreciated her inclusion of the straw. "Iced tea is a good break from milkshakes. Sometimes you have to drink other things or milkshakes won't be special," he explained with the sort 14 year old sagacity that was expected of his actual age.

"Really, I'll remember that next time you're mooching a second round from me," she replied back and smirked, curling up on the couch to return to proper audience. "Though really, mint iced tea is one of my favorite drinks. What's it mean when the floaty squiggle turns purple?" She pointed to something that looked like a Curly Cheetos until a minute ago.

Martin huffed. "No no no. If you're at a milkshake place you have to have extra milkshakes! No iced tea!" Such a simple concept really, why did he need to explain?

At the mention of purple squiggles, there should be none of those, Martin turned to the offending floating bit of magic in question. "Hmm? Oh. No, that's not supposed to be there or purple! Hmm...well you see I was going to show you this transfiguration thing I finally got down but that part isn't supposed to look like that. Let me fix it," he frowned and put his hand out, focusing to put the squiggle back in its appropriate place and as the right colour. The squiggle was having no part in this and seemed to actively struggle against the young mage who poured more power into moving it. He wasn't going to let a tiny bit of a spell get the better of him, no way, so he held one hand out, trying to hold the squiggle steady as it tried to escape, and moved the other components of the spell to fit. Nothing seemed to want to go his way for some reason and in no time her living room was illuminated in blue with the amount of power he was putting to get the spell to do his bidding.

It didn't take long for the tension between the uncooperative spell and Martin's extra magic to reach a head and all at once it exploded, sparks and bolts going wild as one rather strong bolt found its way to...a certain archer on the couch.

Frances only got a moment's warning of something is wrong and sat up in concern, when the squiggle when ballistic and part of it came her way. "Oh shi-" she shouted and dived for over the back of the couch, hoping to dodge the pyrotechnics and only have to deal with bruised knees for landing hard. The bolt got her anyway and as she landed she suddenly felt- Itchy and goosebumpy at the same time and a case of vertigo while things went blurry.

After a few minutes, because she had to tell the world what she though of it's humor, she came around the upended sofa, like a bat out of hell. panic owl "This is not happening, this is not happening!" she declared while running around, though it came out more a high pitched 'screee' than words.

Martin coughed as the coloured smoke and crazed sparks and lighting effects died down. Oops. Well he hadn't meant to do all that...he should apologize to Frances becuase he was pretty sure half the things in this room weren't there before. Or, well, they were just...not in that form.

"Frances-AH!" He jumped in panic as a crazed little owl ran by. He did not like things getting too close to him that he wasn't aware of, wait...when did the owl get there? He'd never turned anything into animals quite that big. "Frances? Frances?" He called to the room, starting to get worried. "Sorry I umm...did you have a crazy owl before?"

The crazy owl was making tight little circle, flapping and jumping around to gesticulate. "Love of fuck look at me. I'm tiny! And screechy! I'm covered in feathers and my fucking legs are bent backwards!" She beat her wings with no grace and of course she couldn't instinctively fly. Because that would be convenient.

charging owl
Stopping her ranting spaz, she turned to Martin. "You." She rushed him like only a few ounces of rage and feathers could. "Magic users, save me from magic users and their handwaving bullshit! I'm not even the right bird to make this funny!" She darted about and nipped at his socks and pant hem in frustration.

Oh. Well that would explain where the owl came from. Oops...he could fix this...right? Well he hoped, it'd suck to have to go to Dr. Strange for help with mistakes like this. Fortunately, he didn't understand owl, but the screeching got the point across.

"Sorry Frances...I didn't mean to! We can fix-Ah!" One of his discs popped up under him to lift him up and away from the angry and crazed former-archer that was nipping at his socks. "Hey, I said sorry! And that it'll get fixed, you won't be an owl forever." Ugh, still too much blueish smoke in the air, Martin waved his hat around to dissipate it a bit before realizing that he was sitting on a levitating disc to get away from...an owl. "Wait...can't you fly?"

Seeing the little magician jump and fear her in this state was, well, satisfying in a petty way. Petty and childish, calm down he hadn't meant for it to happen. It just sucked. And Orlen would suddenly burst in and be dying of laughter any moment. She relented from her attack and stepped back, huddling into a sulky ball.

She looked up, understanding him and snorted sarcastically. 'Can't you fly?' She huffed and walked to her still-upright sofa, getting beak and talons into the throw cast on it. After rock-climbing her way up by beak and claws to the cushions, she opened her wings and ran off the couch, flapping like a spastic projectile. She landed on the ground inelegantly in a puff of dust. No.

He had to admit, Frances made a very cute grumpy owl, so when she stopped attacking it was hard to keep the smile off his face. But he tried! Unfortunately her 'flying' display made that even harder and he resorted to biting his lip and trying so hard not to snicker at the poor cranky owl spazzing on descent. Tried. Because there was no way he was going to be successful at that, even when using his hat to try and hide the smile on his face.

Even at this angle, it wasn't hard to see how amused Martin's expression was at the whole situation. And she couldn't really blame him, it was an accident and this scene could be funny. Regardless, it was still a pain in her ass and pretty embarrassing to boot. "Freaking magic," she screed in defeat and squat down into the floor.

He could tell she was very much not happy about this, so he did try to hold back the giggles still. She looked awfully cute there, the cranky owl sulking on the carpet. Martin gave her a few minutes of sulking on her own before he carefully floated over on his disc and reached out with his hat, using the brim to gently stroke her feathers. "Sorry about this Frances..."

She made a prrting noise in her chest, which was apparently owl for a grumbling sigh. The hat brushed on the crown of her head and that felt weird, having feathers to pick up on touch. She caught the brim in her beak and shook it lightly like a handshake to show no hard feelings. Well, as long as there was work towards undoing it, no hard feelings. Letting go, she had a full body shake, fluffing her feathers into place before sitting down and canting her head to the side to look at him. Owls had shitty binocular vision!

The teen with the owl on his shoulder strolled down the street only as long as it took to find a secluded spot and teleport to the Thunder Bolts HQ in Boston. For once he actually teleported to outside it so she could see the place.

"And this is the front, the others put up a bunch of security stuff to blow up intruders but I put the wards up to stop anyone but me from teleporting in. And no demons allowed of course. But I did all the wards myself!"

He gave her the short version of the tour, only indicating the doors of the basement lab and his teammates' rooms, but making sure he hit all the living areas, the gym (which he hadn't blown anything up in...too recently), the kitchen (the old one had been blown up by Anya, he explained. A shame really. Because he didn't get to see her do it), and the freezer where Jack kept stealing his icecream. All the important places really.

"I think we have a plane or something, I'm not sure though because my teleporting is much faster so we use that instead," he added with a touch of pride as they got to his door. "This is my room at HQ. I put a whole bunch of spells on the door so nobody can get in unless I let them. Or they get zapped...and other things. Oh and it's magic proof so my spells don't leak out." The door swung open for them on cue.

This wasn't his room in the Sanctum, he actually used it a lot less too, so it was surprisingly sparse. One would think he'd have tricked the place out magically but he hadn't bothered since his other room was only a teleport away. The place had a rather nice bed and desk, but it was clearly something that was a basic for the rooms here and nothing he'd picked out, and the only other things in the room were a bean bag seat, the laptop Anya had adjusted for his hands, and a small stack of books and DVDs. Oh and a cage with a purple guinea pig. "Hmm...where do you want to sit while I set up? You can watch a movie, I don't have many though."

In owl form, transport felt like a blast of pins and needles that vanished as fast as it started. She made a impressed hooing noise at the outside, it was a nice set-up. The wards were probably nasty, but the security was easily serious stuff. Let's hope the Avengers didn't have to go up against the Defenders anytime!

She was an attentive guest, making R2D2-like chirps and coos in appreciation of the stories and rooms. She even made grumpy noises about the ice cream theft, anyone can sympathize. After hearing about his spells to protect his room, she started to tense up and spread out her wings in panic. Holding her breath as he crossed the threshold, she relaxed in relief.

It looked.. well kinda sad, not very lived in. She felt bad if this was how he lived, with little personality in 'his' place. She really hoped that purple hairball wasn't his last accidental transfiguration attempt. Bracing, she jumped off his shoulder for the bed, flapping hard to control her descent into the bedding. She climbed across the dunes of blankets and chirped again.

He'd have to tell her about the Defenders compound one day. It had lots of awesome magic defences but was just plain huge. Plus Marlow was awesome.

He appreciated her responses, and they had him grinning and puffing up a little with pride at having a cool HQ to hang out in. There was muffled giggling from him though at both her mini panic at his doorway and the 'flight' down to his bed. Sitting on the floor, what looked like a night stand hopped over and opened its top, revealing itself to be his storage for some magic supplies. "I'll show you my room in the Sanctum one day, it's way cooler and I have a really old chest that looks like it once had treasure, and all sorts of books everywhere. But I shouldn't keep my laptop there and there's no TV so I have to watch stuff here," he explained as he fished through his not-really-a-nightstand. "And that's my guinea pig, be careful though, he's bipolar and a bit squishy. He used to be this minion bad guy thing that wasn't a person or anything since if you squeezed them too hard they'd just sort of explode like they were made of steam." Sadly, there wasn't a clearer way of putting it. "I got the spell right though! It was great! He was purple to begin with though, don't worry."

Before setting up, he looked around for something to give her to look at or occupy herself with while he worked. There wasn't really much though, a few books including The Hobbit which he'd started reading since she said they'd watch the Lord of the Ring movies, a copy of Guns and Ammo magazine (not from Kelly's collection, he'd just gotten one of his own to see), and a book of a collection of pictures of the Avengers and various other superheroes. Most of his books were in his other room. But he did spread them out for her to choose her source of entertainment while he worked on the prep. Because prep was a real important part.

She eyed the guinea pig distrustfully, not wanting to get any closer. Magical overlap didn't sound fun and the pig looked plenty shifty.

After trying to page through some of his magazines, Frances considered the likelihood of owls flipping pages efficiently enough to no forget what they just read on the previous page. It wasn't like she had the attention span for either movies or books. After a bit, she started to hoist herself up on a propped up pillow, getting some altitude. Getting as far forward as possible, she took a deep breath and launched forward to start flapping. It was a fall, but a controlled fall, she could at least steer it. Landing in a pile, she sat up and fluffed herself before then turned to start hiking back up the pillow.

Martin half watched the show with amusement while he got the giant spellbook out of his hat and found the right spell before he began to fish materials to use. He had to stop watching the owl trying to take flight in order to concentrate on spell prep. He'd specifically picked one more suited to his...limitations, after all, power control was not his forte. But the great thing about doing magic was that there was a variety of ways to do the same thing, and this one didn't require too precise power control as long as he did the prep exactly right. So Martin got to work tracing runes and seals into his floor with the utmost concentration, tongue peaking out at times as a result of it. It was a good while before he'd finished, but when he was done, he sat back and sighed in relief while he stretched out his legs. So far so good.

He grinned over at owlFrances and tapped the center circle with his hat. "Hop in! I got it ready! It'll work, you'll see." Except of course he hadn't ever done this spell on a former human before. Turning things back to tables was easier than people but...same principle. So it should work. Well, he had to do his best, he didn't want to have to go to Dr. Strange with this.

Frances was pretty proud of herself; in the time it took for Martin to feng his shui into the right alignments, she had figured out how to flap to carry on without stalling and to land more like she knew what she was doing than trusting the mattress to be soft. Her flights may not be too long but it was progress and mission accomplished.

He seemed ready to start, pointing to the circle. All she could tell was the design was kind of pretty. She fluttered down from the bed to the floor and walked over, eyeing him once more. Well, there was only one thing to do, wasn't it? Careful with her tail and claws, she walked across the design without messing it up or weakening the lines. Finding the center, she sat down and hooed at him.

He grinned in response and put his hat back on. "Lucky hat on! Let's go!" Sure he'd miss her as an owl, it was sort of fun, but as a one-off adventure. First he opened the door to float the few stuff he had in the place, just the laptop and books really, out of the room, and then shut the door again. He then placed his gloved hands in the middle of two circles that came off one of the outer rings from the one she was standing in.

The best analogy he could think of for how he'd set the spell up was like filling a cup. The prep work was building the cup, and he had to do that right, make sure it was the right size, no leaks, etc. This part was just filling with the appropriate amount of power. It shouldn't be too bad, at least he hoped. He hadn't actually ever really done this spell before. As his hands began to glow their familiar blue, the lines too began to glow, brighter and brighter until tendrils of magic sprang forth from the design to spring upon the little owl. So far so good, until he felt part of the spell give way and some of the magic was beginning to get out of control. He tried to pour more power in to make up for the escaping magic but it was backfiring. Why weren't things working for him?!

There was a moment of panic as it felt like there was far too much magic going into this now and erupting. Unfortunately that moment of panic was enough to make his gloves gush even more magic, again far more than needed, just to make things worse. It was just a vicious cycle and he tried to stay calm and reign things in, redirecting all that extra magic to the one thing it'd have the hardest thing affecting. Himself.

Suddenly the room exploded with magics, a boom loud enough to be heard throughout the whole HQ if it hadn't already shook the building, threatening to blow down the walls of his room. Luckily they stood, though as the smoke began to clear and the lights flickered back on, it actually seemed that the spell was a success. In place of the owl was a perfectly normal, okay as normal as Frances could ever be, and fully clothed archer in the middle of the design.

Except there was no sign of the young mage. Only his lucky magic hat was on the floor where he had been.

Thank God for remembering the clothes. That had been a worry of hers.

She blinked and stood up from her crouched position, wincing when her joints remember which direction they should go. She was way too pins and needles-y at the moment but she could see her hands and body and it sans feathers. "Martin, I think it worked- hey even my voice is back!" she wanted to cheer but then sat back down because whooo blood rush, body not used to that height without a shoulder to perch on.

"Martin?" she asked and looked around, even up. "Pip?" She waited in case he was incorporeal and then spied his hat. "Oh no." Please let my gut be wrong, she thought and carefully reached out to gingerly lift his magic hat.

"Oh Martin," she groaned and put the hat to the side while crouching in front of the angry bunny. Actually it was pretty cute and little and the fact it was sulking as loud as possible made it even better. Still, this didn't feel like a step forward for their troubles. "I thought the point was to take the spell off of me, not transfer it onto you." She sighed and stuck her hand out for the bunny to come close to. "I mean, you're the magic person, what am I supposed to do with a bunny?"

The sulking bunny didn't move towards the hand for a while, just stayed in place glaring at the world. The spell should wear off, he was pretty sure. It took a lot more magic to affect a sorcerer, especially with one's own magic. So while he'd put enough power into this that it had actually resulted in bunny!him, it should wear off soon. He was pretty sure...

The bunny finally shuffled forward, burying his face into her hand. Whether this was nuzzling or a facepalm wasn't clear though.

Frances went with a facepalm, because she was 90% sure that's what he wanted to do but lacked the required palm to do it himself. She kept from smiling too much, she knew it'd be irritating to be considered adorable in this predicament (he still was). Sighing, she sat there and looked around as rabbit had an inner screaming fit and looked around. "I suppose that me cleaning this up would only lead to more trouble. And I'm sure Orlen'd be fine with swinging by, but it'd suck to have him fix this," she reasoned out loud. "Could go to the kitchen, scope out the veggie crisper."
