Checking on the home team
Commander Fontaine, Deputy Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., made the rounds when the special ops team came back in. After their last disastrous outing, she wanted to make sure they were still in one cohesive piece. The reports had been favorable.

She hadn't met the newest member yet, though she knew the contents of his file. She'd been the one to have it sent to Sammy for consideration. Her little gun nut, and Walker and Dugan, could always use someone with the ability to build a better gun.

Sammy's report had been terse but informative. The others' a little more informative. Landon was next on her list.

She paused only a second to see the trophies and medals, chuckling a little as she did, and followed him down the hall.

Sammy was prepared to sleep on a sofa or a hard cot somewhere in a corner if it meant she wouldn't insult the kind woman below. The room was more than she expected. It was warm and homey, and a far cry from her quarters on the helicarrier.

She sat down on the mattress and bounced a very little to test it. "This is great, thanks."

Tech blinks for a minute at Sammy as she sits on the bed. It's not the motion of her bouncing upon it that catches his attention, but more how the room seems more...full with her in it. There's a bit more light to it now than just the lamp that illuminates it.

"Not a problem at all. I need to go put a couple of things in my room, but I can meet you in the kitchen." he says. He'll turn to go unless she has something further to say.

	"I'll simply say you forged the evidence through photoshop. It would be believable, too." he grins. "But if you're going to take pictures, make sure to get one of the 'Mr. Bon Temps Swing '04 Champion'. That was my best year. Gran has film somewhere that I need to destroy." he chuckles. 	Sammy didn't believe for a second that he would destroy his grandmother's memories, or that Mrs. Landon would allow it to happen. "I'll do that," she promised. "You better go on and assure her you're fine and your injuries are healing. She'll take it better if you don't have an audience to helpfully say it doesn't look as bad as it did." Sammy took her time making up the bed with the fresh bedclothes Tech provided, and washing up so she didn't look like she'd been traveling for hours. The small bag of necessities she'd purchased at their stop at Walmart sat on the dresser. She was no judge of antiques, but the furniture looked old and well cared for, the sort that passed down from generation to generation. It was something she had little experience with living at the S.H.I.E.L.D. provided penthouse that her parents had occupied for more than forty years.

She found her way downstairs, making enough noise to warn them she was coming so she wouldn't interrupt a private conversation.

	The two did appear to be talking, but they stopped when she came into the room. "Sam, there you are." Evelyn says. "Come on and sit down. Jason was just leaving." She indicates the seat that Tech is currently getting up from as he heads to the door. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	Evelyn just laughs as she brings over the pot of coffee. "That boy, God love him, because otherwise I'd have to strangle him. I'm just glad he's not down in the basement now. 	Mmmm...coffee. Mrs. Landon had just made a friend for life. "In the lab all the time? He tries, but we're good at dragging him out. He can't show off his inventions and improvements if he doesn't." Evelyn looks a bit concerned now, as if she might have said too much, but if his partner didn't know, she needed to before something happened.

"There are times when Jason gets so involved in his work that he loses himself completely. It's like he goes somewhere, but he can keep working while he does it. He doesn't eat, or get tired, or respond to anything. Believe me, I've tried." she says.

"Usually, when he's done, he'll have some new invention in front of him, but he can't even tell you what it does. His grandfather was much the same way." she says, taking a sip of her coffee with shaking hands.

"The first time it happened, he lost an hour. The second time three. A few months ago, I swear he spent all day in that lab and didn't come out until I had to have a neighbor break down the door and pull him up off the floor. That's why I'm asking you to make sure he's getting out more. I don't know what exactly triggers it, except for his work." she says.

	She nodded. She hadn't witnessed one of these episodes, but getting him out of a lab would be child's play for their team. If nothing else, she could send Walker or Childress in to haul him out. "Does he know he has episodes like this?" (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	The question made Sammy wonder if Tech had told Mrs. Landon who he worked for now. "You could say I was born to it. It's sort of a family legacy. This coffee is wonderful. Jason has been known to speculate if my blood is three-two coffee." (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"I'm aware of who your father is and that S.H.I.E.L.D. is sponsored by the United Nations. I did some research on your website once Jason told me that he was going to be working with you. I'm very glad that he is doing research and development and not working with people who could possibly get him killed regularly." Evelyn says.

"I also know that he's working with you all to help Jacob get released early. I am ashamed to admit this to anyone, but I wish Jason wouldn't do it. He needs to be free of his brother's influence. Jake used to be a good, sweet young man, but...after his ability started, he changed. He fell in with that Michael Savoy not long after and that was when the rumors started." Eve says.

"Admittedly, our website only shows our company manners," Sammy said with frank honesty. Mrs. Landon obviously knew more than Tech gave her credit for. They were protecting each other. It was admirable. She had to be careful not to screw up any cover story he might have told his grandmother about his injuries.

And it was not the time to tell her than working with her team could very well get Tech killed. It was a choice Tech had made, and Sammy would not gainsay him. Yet.

"Ultimately, the decision to provide an early release for Jacob will rest on the government," Sammy said carefully. "All of Jason's work will only go so far. The rest is on Jacob."
