“We’re here outside the Four Seasons Hotel in New York where the who’s who is gathered tonight. Celebrities, royals and superheroes have all turned out for the annual Maria Stark Foundation Winter Charity event benefiting Toys for Tots.

It’s truly an all-star gala here tonight.

New York’s own princess, Anya Stark, was seen being escorted by what appears to be her new flame, actor Austin Cain. Her brother and currently second in line to the Russian throne, Mikhail Romanov, was seen entering the party with Lyta Worthington, heiress to Worthington Industries. Tony and Natasha Stark, parents of a new baby, are making their first public appearance since the birth of their son.

Mackenzie Rider, a prince of the underwater kingdom of Atlantis, is escorting Ms. Andrea Denker of the Fantastic Four tonight. Kristoff Vernard, leader of the Fantastic Four, was seen in attendance with his wife Cassandra and their son Scotty. Vincent Amorason, heir to Latveria, arrived alongside his brother and was seen escorting a member of the Defenders, Asleif Thorsdottir. The rest of the Fantastic Four are here too with their dates, though Miss Valeria Richards is not in attendance. Franklin Richards is in attendance and is escorting one Miss Gill.

Los Angeles’ own superhero team, the Defenders are in attendance as well. Arriving with her team is Grace Danvers, daughter of Hollywood hunk Simon Williams and she is being escorted by teammate, Eiltin. The two Asgardian princesses and daughters of Thor, Asleif and Aridis, are also attending the festivities with their team.
Akilah Munore, the crown princess of Wakanda, is here tonight with her steady flame, Daniel Sherwood a member of the Young Avengers. The other Young Avengers are in attendance tonight with their dates, alongside the adult Avengers.

Donald Trump arrived with his wife and is one of many other famous faces to arrive. Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Hugh Jackman, Jack Nicholson, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift are just a few celebrities who have made an appearance here tonight.

It’s truly a party of the who’s who and it’s all for a great cause.”

	Dawn had, truthfully, gone with her second choice of dress, after deciding that she wasn't quite ready for one as daring as the first and that it might render Griffen incapable of coherent speech for the entire evening. 	Griffen was in a good tux. It was fairly standard but he had chosen to go with a tie rather than a bow tie. And he had gotten a toy chemistry set. He thought it would be good for a kid interested in science. He couldn't help but sneak peaks at Dawn. She had very nice legs. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	Eliza isn't really here to have fun. She doesn't want to even be here. She missed Iason. Of course that didn't keep her out of here. She did drop off the foot ball and basketball she had picked up. 	Playing the happy princess had been taxing and Anya needed a breather. She slipped out of the ballroom and stepped out into the small garden. She shivered against the cold night air and took a deep breath. Tears formed in her eyes and she quickly wiped them away with the back of a hand. She'd give anything to see Steve and have him here. 	Marlow arrived behind the other Defenders, but she didn't join them. They all had dates and she was happy for them. She didn't mind wandering through the crowd alone after she put her toy with the others, listening and watching the crowd. 	Sammy had to nudge Jason to get him moving again. Who would've thought meeting Tony Stark would have such a profound effect on the guy? Would Dr. Pym have the same result? She was going to have to see how quickly Jason recovered before they crossed paths with Dr. Pym or Dr. Richards. She put her empty glass on a passing tray and picked up another. Jason says good-bye to Mr. Stark and his lovely wife at Sammy's urging. He felt a little bad for ignoring her while he talked to Mr. Stark about Zero-Point Energy, but he knew Sammy understood.

And to think that Drs. Pym and Richards were also in attendance tonight! Jason didn't consider this place Heaven, but it was pretty close.

"Sorry I got carried away, Gorgeous. How are you doin'?" he asks.

Late into the party

The party had been going on for several hours by the time something truly... interesting happened.

First, there was the faint feeling of static electricity in the air. Second, there was a faint humming. Both of these built for several moments, before a crackling of energy began to coalesce in the air in the middle of the dance floor. It held there for a moment, until it flashed brighter, disgorging one Steven Barton.

He looked, perhaps, a little older, maybe a little shell-shocked. One sleeve was missing from what looked like a combat uniform, revealing an arm of gleaming metal. On his back was some kind of shield, that looked suspiciously like a certain other shield.

He had come out on one knee, trembling from the energy of the journey.

He looked around, eyes darting every which way, looking for threats.

"...Made it," he said, quietly.

Anya had just come in from outside and still had Justin's coat wrapped around her shoulders. She grabbed a glass of champagne from a passing waiter and downed it in two gulps. Right now getting plastered beyond belief seemed like a good idea.

She put her glass on a table and grabbed another one from the next passing waiter.

She took one drink from it and then took a moment to look around the room. Everyone looked so pretty and they all looked like they were having a good time. In a room full of people she felt alone. Maybe she should just go home and help James and Val with Nick.

She brought her glass up for another drink when she froze. Mentally she counted the glasses of champagne she had tonight. It had only been four or was it five? Definitely not enough to make her start seeing things. Of course there was the possibility she was loosing her mind because she would swear she saw Steve standing there.

Austin got a little worried when Anya asked for a break after their dance. He knew she was under a lot of strain, and he wondered now if she'd finally had all she could take.

Austin went looking for Anya, and was directed to the doors near the garden. He turned the corner, hoping to coax another smile out of her...

and found her in a full on kiss with some guy with...was that a metal arm?!

Anya could only be kissing one person that way. It looked like Steve was back home. Austin smiled sadly. He was happy that Anya had the love of her life back, but he was sad as well, in that he'd fallen for her almost the moment they'd met.

He knew it would come to this, eventually, that their friendship would always be just that: friendship. As long as Steve was out there, Anya would never let him go. And now Steve was back.

Austin stepped back quietly and turned to go back to the party, but the walls fell a little closer than they did a few moments ago. Now, it would be /him/ that had to go out and put on a brave face for everyone. Anya had Steve back and this was their night. He wouldn't get in the way of that.

His phone rings just then. His agent, Darren Vick. He picks up.

"Austin, hey man. The Wachowski Brothers want to know if you want the part for their movie in Russia. Filming begins next month, but I told them you might still be in Boston finishing Five J's. What's the deal?" Darren asks.

"Oh, we're gonna work through Christmas to get it done. Listen, how soon could I leave for Russia after filming wraps? Like, if we finish on December 28th, could I be on a plane to Moscow that night?" Austin asks.

"Yeah, man. Don't see why not. But what's Anya Stark gonna say about you bein' gone for a few months?" Darren asks playfully.

"I think she's got other stuff on her mind. Filming should wrap next week. Just get the ticket ready and call me back." Austin says quickly.

"You got it, boss." Darren says, and hangs up.

Austin next finds one of the waiters.

"Hey, man. Will you tell Miss Stark when you see her. I'm her date this evenin', but an emergency came up and I had to get back to Boston to get to work. Tell her I'm really sorry about what happened and I'll call her when I can." Austin says.

He barely waits for the man to acknowledge before he heads out of a different entrance to go around front and call a cab to the airport.

Sometimes, a clean break is best.
