Axe's Anniversary of Birth!!!!
Charlie was pretty sure he'd missed out on a wonderful career as a party planner. As he stared out at the dance floor, which he stood over on a platform where the DJ was spinning a mix of wizard and muggle music (even with some popular French songs that were actually pretty catchy if Charlie said so himself). He wasn't surprised at how many people showed up, but it still nearly startling to see how bloody happy everyone was to be there! Sure, some looked ridiculous with the fake mustaches that were passed out (not required, obviously), but a lot had actually grown out their beards and it was----cool, they tried, they wanted to be there and they wanted to have a good time. Charlie wanted to have a good time.

The Kestrels were not top of the pack, and while he believed in his team completely, the stress of the numbers had been getting to them. A night like this was necessary, and maybe it could rejuvenate the team that had lost some valuable members this season and had done a bit of shifting around. They were still trying to get themselves into place, and it needed to happen faster than it was.

Plus, Axe had been pissy all week that no one had acknowledged the anniversary of his birth.

Charlie grabbed the mic from the DJ and grinned, enjoying colorful scene laid out in front of him. funkybuddha club had been a perfect choice for the night, "Don't everyone tire themselves out! There's still a lot more festivites to look forward to!"

Glenda!

It was a strange feeling for Matt to be on the guest list for an event like this. He was 90% sure that 98% of the league had been invited, but for someone who was used to being part of that ignored 2%, it was a big deal. Outside of the All-Star gala, this was the first event where he himself had been invited, and not just lumped together as part of a team or the sport as a whole. Brookstanton actually knew his name, and whether it was because he made fun of the Cannons in the locker room, Matt couldn't be sure, but there it was!

And! And! He was here with Glenda! Well, not here with her, but---they had been spending time together, and now there had been dancing and some drinks, and now she was even introducing him to her family!

"McLaggen!" Matt let out as they walked away from the United seeker and his wife. He was so starstruck that he couldn't find any decent words. He'd played against Finn, of course, but his style of seeking was what Matt had based his own off of, and to have Finn compliment him and say he actually followed the Cannons' matches now, it--Matt couldn't---bwahhh.

He looked down at Glenda, who looked ruddy beautiful and quite happy to be here. That was a lovely sight. "I had no idea he was your cousin!"

Glenda smiled softly. "My mother gave me her name when I was born," Gleny explained, agreeing that it was rather misleading. Traditionally speaking, she should've taken her father's last name, as her parents had been happily married for many years, but it had never... been a pressing matter. And that had been what her parents had decided on, so... she blinked quickly, catching herself before wandering into a dazed manner.

"He likes you," Gleny smiled again, speaking truthfully as she looked up at Matt. After all, he had agreed to meet him--- why, she was now realizing, might have been for different reasons than she'd intended, but that was still good nonetheless. If for anything else to help Matt's career along. Plus, it was always nice to see Joy.

This party was... not something she had been expecting. And Gleny would admit, while this theme of mustaches made little to no sense to her, she supposed she could find the fun in it. Truthfully, she had already secured a few in her purse to bring home to Tristan, who would no doubt find much pleasure in them. So, all in good fun?

MAGGIE

'Mustaches' was a funny word. Mustaches, mustaches--- the English language never ceased to confuse and amaze Adrian, with it's strange way of arranging and creating words. This one had become especially difficult, as he'd found early upon arrival that he had difficulty pronouncing itself correctly, according to Maggie. So he listened, and waited, and tried--- and then promptly gave up on it. Mustache in Portuguese was much easier to say, so that was it's new name.

"Bigode," he nodded, waving one lightly in his hand at a stranger as he walked by. The student had become the teacher. Adrian pressed his lips together in a funny manner, laughing at his own personal joke.

He continued on his way through the party, looking for things to pick up or play with while en route back to Maggie. They had set up their camp in one of the more private rooms, finding it much more to their liking than out in the open with people everywhere. Weaving through a couple of people, he finally made it to his destination.

"Look!" he exclaimed, and without delay dropped everything he had been carrying into the table in front of his wife. Adrian knew that with everyday of her pregnancy Maggie became more and more uncomfortable, and therefore more agitated, so... it was the least he could do. That would at least not upset her. "Oh, and--" He handed her a large cup, honestly forgetting what had been in it, and simply remembering that she could drink it.

"Where did Odette go?" Adrian asked seriously, giving a look over his shoulder before focusing back on Maggie. She had been here when he'd left. It wasn't that he didn't think his sister couldn't handle herself in such a public setting.... but maybe it had been a bad idea bringing her.

Maggie was quite sure that she had never hated her husband as much as she did in this instant. The feeling of complete and utter loathing of Adrian Mattias often washed off at the sight of him, but the moment he disappeared from her line of vision thoughts of how she wanted to strangle him for making her go to this party resurfaced. He hadn't made her, she had actually been the one moping about it five minutes before the doors of the club actually were to open and they were already in pajamas because she had definitely not wanted to go.

She was so, so very tired of being pregnant, the emotional roller coaster it often sent her on being exhausting. Maggie knew that Adrian had mentioned the party to think of something fun they could do together, and once he said that this would probably be the last time they would get a chance to go out before they had two children at home, Maggie had nearly splinched herself. It didn't take long for her to get ready, as she had already altered a dress to raise the belt to an empire waist, giving her huge stomach room under the fabric. She supposed she didn't look terrible (Maggie supposed she never did), but she did not feel very good. She was actually quite sore, and the pain shooting out of her lower back was not helping the case. Her shoes had been kicked off and her feet were resting on the chair across the table from her. She looked like a proper slouch, and had no qualms about it.

A smile did light up her face when Adrian returned with his goodies. Maggie enjoyed that he tried so much and she slipped a ring with a mustache on it around her finger. Her thoughts drifted until he questioned where his sister had gone off to. Maggie looked up, not having noticed that Odette had disappeared from her seat beside her. Oh.

"I don't know," she admitted, but not worried. Odette had probably gone home; how she could stand to be out had startled Maggie, but Adrian was rather convincing when he really wanted something. Maggie shrugged, "She'll be fine."

Seth was unsure of why he came to this party. It was probably equal parts of the fact he couldn’t ignore a party that invited him not to shave, and the fact that the last adult interation he had that didn’t include his team or nanny was well over a month ago. And that was hanging out with Odette which was probably both inappropriate and stupid. And a little fun, even if it was just her using him to piss of her husband.

He was having fun though. He was also sober. Seth Wadcock was at a party sober and having fun. Hmm, was this what it was like to be an functioning appropriate adult? What a strange feeling. No matter how grown he had become in the past year, there were a few things Seth could ignore. Odette standing alone looking surly off to the side of the dance floor was one of them. And since she had reached out to him not to long ago, he supposed it couldn’t hurt to go over and say hello. Well hello, in his own way.

“A lady such as yourself shouldn’t be standing off to the side on her own. Dance with me?” he asked smirking at her.

She had only let Maggie and Adrian drag her to this party because--- because it was Axe. Odette hadn't even considered coming, assuming that Axe would understand considering her current--- status, and Odette hadn't given it a second through until she truly contemplated it. Which made her realize, that no, he wouldn't find any excuse acceptable to not attend his birthday party. So, here she was, feeling out of place (at a party) and miserable. Cheers Rupert Brookstanton.

Odette had long ago gotten up and departed from Maggie's side, no longer wanting to people watch or talk about her pregnancy. That left herself at her own disposal, and not feeling social in the slightest, it left her with little to actually do. The drinks were too strong for her taste, and there were so many people here it felt nauseating.

When Odette saw Seth approach, her face soured. In a vain attempt to deter him, she looked to her right, pressing the side of her face into her shoulder, like it would do anything. When he obviously succeeded in placing himself in front of her, Odette looked down at him wordlessly. Too tired to figure out what ulterior motive he could possibly have, she just dropped her drink on the nearest table and complied.

"Fine," she spoke tonelessly, and per usual, did not wait for him to follow her.

Jeremiah!

Arista was really starting to hate these parties. She'd finally been the one to demand Miles allow her to shamelessly use him, and what did the bloody French lout do, but show up with a real date in tow. Oh, Arista had heard about her, all right; she was some frosty little witch Miles was making a game out of thawing, and he kept tossing out words like vierge (which she was fairly certain meant virgin, but she had merely tittered away and refrained from asking for clarification), so Arista supposed his date had that going for her. Not that she liked this Winnifred, of course. For the first time in her life, she'd been out-snobbed, so Arista had flounced off almost as soon as Miles made his cocky double-door, double-girl entrance.

She should have been having a raucously (or as raucously as Arista Withers-Sykes could manage) good time, since, though no longer undefeated, the Pride were sitting at the top of the League (however precariously), but something was lacking. Then she thought she might try to salvage the evening by placing herself conveniently in the direct path of Charlie Spinnet. The rags went on about some mysterious girlfriend he supposedly had, but Arista knew very well how they fabricated stories, and he was always so receptive (and reciprocal) to her flirtatious advances, so she thought she'd give it a go, to make herself feel better. It had worked, briefly, until he pulled a meek, disheveled, not at all fairy-looking girl from behind him and slid his arm around her. Arista wanted to screech.

So she once again flounced away, this time to some dark corner of the room, with a drink in hand that she didn't entirely want, but was holding just in case. You know, if there was a sudden thirst she needed to quench, or a face she needed to throw it in. Whichever. She had just about given up the notion of chucking the glass in a fit of temper, and was taking a healthy (but lady-like, of course) swig from it when a familiar face appeared in what she considered a most imprudent breech of her personal space.

"You," she said, practically sneering, setting the glass down on the table beside them. "Don't start."

Jeremiah look dramatically over his shoulder. "A greeting like that I almost expected Wadcock to be standing behind me. Heartbreaking that it was really intended for me." He said placing his free hand over his heart in a wounded fashion. He set his drink down next to hers as he glanced around the room. He saw the entrance Miles had made with her and another girl, and Jeremiah knew enough about Arista to know that was not did not sit well with her at all.

He fully expected her to have found company by now, but being as this was the third time he had caught sight of her and she was still alone he figured he'd go over and say hello, save her from Wadcock from spotting her alone. He considered himself to be a far better companion.

"So tell me, Miss Sykes, what do you call a deer with no eyes?"

Tonyyy!
[info]darlingwendy
2012-09-07 03:36 pm UTC (link)
Wendy loved parties! All sorts of parties—really, every sort of party. Not the dressing up part, she always did that, but all the pretty decorations! And the drinks! And the dancing! She felt badly some of the time that she loved all those things very much and her husband could only be coaxed into one moderate-sized gathering a year for fear of sensory overload, but it was all right! Wendy had a revolving door of people to alternatively sweet-talk or bully into taking her places, so neither she nor Chandler had to compromise very much. But Tony had asked her to come with him tonight, so she was already having the best time ever, even if she didn't think Axebanger Brookstanton was a very nice person and he had made comments of a sexual if complimentary nature to her before. He was having a very nice party and she had worn one of those entertaining false moustaches until it fell off somewhere on the dance floor during one of her more energetic turns.

They'd danced for what would be an inordinately long time to normal people, and though Tony moved as fiercely and flawlessly as he ever did, Wendy could tell his heart wasn't in it tonight.

"I'm so tired!" she all but chirped, which was a complete but necessary lie as she grabbed his hand and all but dragged her date off the dance floor. "Let's get some punch and sit down."

He'd only led one dance circle tonight, that was how Tony knew he was off his game. His body couldn't resist moving to the music, obviously, but his usual desire to get other people up and moving was simply lacking and he had not resisted Wendy's tug to take a rest. Tony followed quickly, adjusting his mustache then his hat with his free hand before he took a glass off a passing tray. Cho was staying with his parents for the weekend, so he didn't have to worry about getting home---he could have a few more of these to wipe his mind of all the irritants that had been floating around.

Everything in his life was good, his daughter was beautiful and smart, his friends were great, his job was fantastic, but all of that seemed to fade into the background when his thoughts drifted to his ex, whom he now knew lived only 5.3 blocks away from his and Cho's flat. It was nearly impossible not to run into her, and thank Merlin that it had not been with Cho. As much as Tony tended to search her out (Maggie did not help his case, with her constant state of boredom toward the end of this pregnancy), it seemed like Asami popped up when he wasn't looking for her, and that made him think that she was looking for him and it just made things awkward and painful and he couldn't help feeling desperate and heartbroken all over again.

YEARS! It had been years since they'd broken up, four years since Cho was born, four years since Asami had chosen her family values over their daughter and him, and all Tony could do was daydream about a reconciliation that would never happen, and if it did he was sure would be toxic and ruin his good life and---

He dropped down onto the couch beside Wendy, panting. He'd been dancing for what had to be going on two hours straight. Tony turned to her, his mustache sitting lopsided on his upper lip, "Is this a look I should continue to wear in the real world?"

Octavius!
[info]melindicate
2012-09-07 06:54 pm UTC (link)
As per usual, she had been left to her own devices at a Spinnet-hosted event. Delilah had put forth a great effort to stay by Nora's side, but she had been distracted by something shiny/someone cute and vanished into the crowd. She had of course been wrangled into help setting up, leaving her only a short amount of time to get ready, but Nora thought she looked rather nice. If anything, her hair had stayed down from when she'd done it the night before.

The last thing she wanted was to have some quidditch bloke attack her, so Nora quickly made her way through the crowd and toward the secluded area that Charlie had roped off for Brookstanton and special guests. Being Delilah's best friend had some perks, so Nora figured she could eat the appetizers that had been left and kick off her shoes because they were absolutely killing her. She had promised Delilah she would make sure she got home (by herself), and that she would be there if there was hair to be held back in the loo.

It seemed like someone else had the same idea as her, but to Nora's amusement they were going about it in a strange way. Protruding from one of the tables that seemed to be carved into the walls was a pair of shoes, with two different colored socks. Nora knew only one person could have managed that, and would be here tonight, so she smiled and bent down to peer under the table.

"Octavius?" she said, hand holding onto the table to keep her balance. Her eyebrows were high, but now she was slightly concerned, "One man party down there?"

Octavius didn't want to help set up a party, he didn't want to go to a party, and he didn't want anything to do with Rupert Axebanger Brookstanton. But there he was, helping to set up. For a party. For Axebanger Brookstanton. He had put up only a marginal resistance when Charlie dragged him along to decorate, but when he spilled the beans of what had come to pass the day before with Rose, his best friend in the whole world shrugged. He seemed to think the better of it for the next second, and then clasped him on the shoulder and said, "Well," but that was the extent of the commiserating. For the next hour, Octavius was not without a streamer in his hand, and then the hour after that, a drink. For Brookstanton's part, he seemed to be making a genuine effort to be decent, had no idea that Octavius hated him, or had no idea who Octavius was, all of which further angered and inexplicably depressed Octavius. Then Charlie had given him whisky, and he was drinking it, and there was more, and then he was on the floor staring up at what he assumed was a very dark night sky.

Or under a table.

It didn't quite matter which one, because he was drunk and everything was terrible.

Well, that wasn't quite right, but things were bad, and he was drunk, so everything was actually much worse than it really was, and Rose didn't want to speak to him, which was just fine, because he didn't want to speak to her, so they did what two people who didn't want to speak to each other any longer would do, and broke up.

There, he said it.

No, actually he hadn't. What he instead did manage was a vaguely bewildered, "I fell."

Zoey liked parties, especially Crazy Kestrel Parties, said with all capitals and should very much be trademarked and they should be making money off of it or something, because there was very much a very big deal about Crazy Kestrel Parties and maybe because this one had non-Kestrels at it, there would be less tattooing but even more fun. Unless there was only tattoos on Axe, which Zoey made a mental note to ask Charlie about. Being the shortest member on the team, and pretty much any team, it made getting around the crowds both a chore and sometimes very easy, ducking under elbows and sliding between people, she followed Joey around until a tray of shiny new drinks appeared, Zoey veered off course straight for it, grabbing one with a broad grin and darting off before anyone could stop her. Even though she was an adult, and could drink all she wanted, Zoey still felt like she was parented by many of the other players and so sneaking drinks was all part of the fun. Until someone tapped her on the shoulder as she took a large sip. She turned with the glass still in her mouth, her eyebrows raising as she lowered the drink and wiped her mouth with her sleeve. "Oh hey! Have you tried this, it's like candy. Delicious alcoholic candy."

The evening had been fairly comfortable for Joey, lots of talking and laughing and catching up with former teammates and the like. He was mid-conversation with their new chaser, discussing the different plays and the best places to hide from Axe...the usual. It took some time before he realized that Zoey had snuck herself off, at which point he excused himself to hunt her down. She kept him from feeling nervous at these things. He excused himself as he ducked through the crowed, trying not to bump into people too much.

He grinned at the sight of her, trying to be as low key about her drinking as possible. He laughed and pulled her closer. "Can't say that I have tried it, no." He kissed her forehead, debating if he should cut loose and grab a drink for himself or not. "I'm glad you're enjoying it though," he added with a grin.

Charlie!
[info]perfectblack
2012-09-08 02:32 am UTC (link)
She thought she would never know how she had gotten so lucky as to have escaped a public event whilst dating a star Quidditch player for eight months. Charlie had long ago left her side, having very important host duties to attend to, and being the most social person of her acquaintance, which she expected, but was still a bit nervous about. There was a very nice area roped off from the rest of the party that was for very important people, which he told a slightly awed Penelope that she counted as. Also included on that list was the guest of honour, who couldn't stand Penelope on the best of days, but she thought they had patched up a bit tonight when she wished him many happy returns and he only looked at her. Thus far, he had not spoken to her directly and only made one comment that could be classified as snide within earshot, so she considered it progress.

But it did not escape Penelope Fawcett's notice that this was their first public event together, and she should be mindful of the way she presented herself so she didn't embarrass Charles, and heavens, her throat was so dry, and that passing tray of sunny, safe-looking drinks was so close, and…

Someone told her she looked like a fairy.

"Yes, I know," she had trilled, looking not a little flushed, and absurdly pleased with herself. "But I am much smarter than they are. In fact, I'm much smarter than all—oh, pardon me!" She danced after a tray of drinks like some sort of woodland creature following the pied piper. Her glass was nearly empty, and her throat did get so dry when she was around large gatherings of people.

Except that was a lie, because Penelope wasn't nervous at all! In fact, she simply couldn't understand why she had made such a fuss in the beginning, because there was nothing to worry about this party at all. Had she thought her outfit too frilly for such a crowd of people? How silly! They had been most complimentary of her.

At least, she thought they had. She couldn't quite remember all the conversations, but she knew that she had spoken a lot, as her throat was getting very dry, and she needed quite a bit of that delicious pumpkin juice to moisten it.

But the room was spinning just a little, which Penelope attributed to the heat, of course, and she took herself and her glass and her rioting hair that had fallen from its bun to the nearest wall so she could simply rest against it for a moment. To cool down. Because of the heat. But she dropped her hand from her neck when she saw an approaching figure and bounded away from the walls for a grand total of three steps before her feet slipped a little out from under her and she skid ungainly into a chest.

"Charles!" Penelope exclaimed, peering up at him. "There you are! You look so handsome! I was only just talking to those nice people there and I—you look so beau—" She had to gulp for air and paused as a doubtful expression stole over her previously dreamy expression. "Charles," she whispered, hiccupping slightly. A small sound of dismay escaped her and she slapped her hand to her lips. "I don't think this is pumpkin juice!"

"I don't think so either!"

Charlie laughed, his hands having gone to Penelope's waist to keep her upright. He, unlike his fairy of a girlfriend, actually had been drinking pumpkin juice all night. It was a bit tiring, as parties seemed to go much slower when you were one of the only sober people in the room and actually had to be paying attention to what was going on. Charlie was done with party hosting for at least another year. Though, it was a bit fun to be the one with the upper hand when everyone else's instincts were becoming a bit loose and out of character. Not that Charlie would ever take advantage of such a thing, of course.

Having lost sight of Axe, Delilah, and Octavius (though Charlie could have sworn he'd seen him at the VIP table just minutes ago!), he was glad to have found Penny. He knew how she dealt with crowds and had been worried at first, but by the looks of it she was having a good time. He had been very exciting to bring her, and to introduce her to his friends outside of the Kestrel circle. Charlie was glad that Delilah had not gotten a hold of Penny, or his girl would be in a much worse situation than she was at the moment. He had no other word to describe her but adorable, and he laughed to himself at the thought. They had gone out for drinks before, but he'd never been the one that was the most sober. The least drunk?

"You seem flushed!" he teased, grinning from ear to ear, "Does that mean you're having a good time?"

Carys was replacing alcohol with cake and it really wasn't doing much good. She had thought that with her dismal mood about the Catapults' current standings, a party for one of her dear friends would help her out, but no! Not even her really short, pretty dress that made her legs look fantastic could not help her sour disposition! She should just hang up her jersey now, because by the end of the season, even if the Catapults made a run, it would be all out of luck and not due to the tremendously remarkable captaining skills of Carys Once-a-Llewellyn Parkin.

She glanced up when she felt Drake's look of disdain upon her. Carys pulled an ugly face at her husband.

"It's good cake!" she moped, but she put her fork down and slid the plate away from her. She really should not have taken that third slice, she wouldn't be able to get her broom off the ground tomorrow if she did. Maybe it would benefit the team! Maybe her wild flying ways had finally rubbed off on the rest of the Catapults and they couldn't keep themselves in control! Who else was there to blame? Captain Kangaroo?

Hmm, yes, she could put some of the blame on Courtney's shoulders.

Celebrating felt nice. Not quite as nice as winning, which they were not doing nearly as much of as he would have liked, but still nice. In the small part of his heart that had not yet become petrified, Axe felt very touched at the lengths his teammates (well, Spinnet) had gone to for him, even if Spinnet had insisted on bringing his waif of a girlfriend. And there was cake, which at that moment made all things in the world glorious. He could even almost forgive the ruse they were leading him on all week. Leaning against a wall beside one of the bars, he crossed his arms and watched the partygoers (his partygoers) almost beatifically. He enjoyed the moustaches very much and scowled and fussed only minimally when Charlie had slapped one on him. He did not even recognise half the witches and wizards in attendance, which was not saying very much for Axe, but still, the sentiment of it all.

A hand clamped down on his shoulder, and a voice boomed out, "Which of these poisons does a man used to the finer liquors of his home partake in?"

Axe, who felt his muscles tensing at the unwanted touching, promptly felt the blood drain from his face entirely. Hardly daring to breathe, he turned his face to the speaker, a tall blonde man who offered him a charming smile. "That is the question, is it not, brother?"

The nausea churning his stomach made Axe send up one swift prayer of thanks for refusing to deviate from his strict code of sobriety and tonic water. Choking a bit over the bile in his throat, Axe wrenched his shoulder out from under the other man's grip and managed to spit out, "Qu'est-ce que tu fais ici?"

Xavier grabbed a drink off a passing tray and took a leisurely sip before turning his unwavering smile back to Axe. "What sort of brother would I be if I did not come to share in your birthday celebrations?" he asked in his near-unaccented English. Of the four of them, he'd worked the hardest at it, and it showed—he'd even gotten a job with the English Ministry for a number of years. But Axe made it a point to avoid any contact with him. Once, he'd slipped up—just once—but he'd never forgotten.

"The sort of brother you've been all your life," Axe muttered in French, tossing back the rest of his tonic water, now wishing he could allow himself something much, much stronger.

Although his smile dropped, Xavier looked no less amiable, only a bit regretful. He paid no attention to Axe's subtle guiding to use French, and replied, "It is true I am visiting on… shall we say, less than pleasant business. Someone who has not proven to me to be as lucrative an investment as you are."

Mustering the strength to sneer, Axe pressed a hand over his heart. "So you admit there is some worth to me after all. I am touched. But you did not come to here, to this heathen party, to have a drink and catch up, I think."

"No," shaking his head and regarding him affably, Xavier tilted his head to one side. "I came here because I need you to do something for me." A self-deprecating smile formed when he saw the misgivings scrawled all across Axe's face. "Oh, I know. It smarts to even have to say it."

The sickness subsided into the muscle-quivering sort of rage only his family could arouse in him, but it was better than the other kneejerk fear response. He was an adult, he was in-control of his life, he had put everything far behind him. "You would condescend to ask me for help?" Axe mocked. "The lows these dealings must have sunken you to."

Unperturbed, Xavier rearranged an errant lock of his hair. "It is not asking, as you will do this for me. What I won't condescend to do is humour you into thinking you will understand the particulars of a delicate matter such as this. But you can get me close to someone who needs a little... encouragement from me." He smile widened. "Your worthless career is actually going to serve me some purpose, so what you should be feeling is grateful."

"And I will help you out of the goodness of my heart?" Axe demanded angrily, shoving away from the wall with his fists balled tightly enough that even his dull nails were scouring skin. "What do I care? Sink in your investment; it makes no difference to me."

Rose closed her eyes, as her lids felt tired and heavy. Sad, sad, she had been feeling so sad, because she didn't--- want to not be talking anymore, she wanted to be talking more, she'd wanted to see him, and she--- her mind thought hazily back to earlier in the night, when she had been home, trying to sleep and thinking, maybe--- but it was late, now, so very late. She was always late, late with everything, and always---- strong hands interrupted her thoughts, as they roughly pushed her body up onto the sink.

A very cold sink, that was, that made it feel very--- her body shuddered, and Rose's eyes snapped open with a low gasp. She blinked down blearily at the close image of Rupert Axebanger Brookstanton pushing up her dress, his hand going up and--- it was not alarming her as much as it should be. It wasn't even--- she was having difficulty keeping her breath, and all that her scattered mind could focus on was how undeniably not sad she was feeling. Not sad. Not sad. Her face screwed up for a moment, as he hiked up her leg, and she quickly pulled at clasp of his trousers.

He tasted like whiskey. She--- had drunk a lot for how short of a physical presence she'd kept here, but, she didn't care. It made her feel better, Axebanger Rupert Brookstanton was making her feel better. And for that, Rose raked her hands down his bare chest, enjoying the feel of it. Up until now there had been a silent agreement of ignoring each other's general existence, so how this had begun.... it was a fuzzy memory. Not important. Something to do with benefits. This sink was important. His hands were important. And his mouth. And all other parts of his body that could make her heart stop aching.

She pressed her forehead into his shoulder, taking deep breaths for a few moments.

"Wait---" She applied her weight against his chest. Maybe--- maybe--- Rose shook her head, the thought already passing as quickly as it had come. Instead, she wrapped her legs around him and forced her lips back onto his.

He didn't remember how he had gotten here. Axe wasn't even sure where "here" was, until his fingers brushed cold, slightly damp porcelain, and he remembered.

Here was kissing a woman whose dress he'd pushed so far up, his hand was more "between her legs," than "under her skirt," in a toilet, while he was drunk. At least he remembered who the woman was, that interminably neurotic Catapult, the one he'd been stuck in the lift with. It was ironic, really, that the person he'd been closest to telling about—about him, about the secrets hanging over his head, was the woman he was now pinning to a cracked mirror, beginning to cloud from their exertions.

His hand formed a fist in her hair and tugged her head back to break the kiss, even though his lips strayed no further than up her jaw. "Tell me," he said gruffly, unable to ignore the momentary hesitation.

He hadn't wanted to do that. He didn't care what she wanted. He didn't even care if she was sober enough to be doing this, because all he wanted was oblivion. He wanted to take and destroy and ravage and he wanted to—get lost. The promise of that was so close to his fingertips, truly, and the thought that he was doing something to jeopardize it was making his head scream. Not like him, not like him, not like him—

He wanted to not care.

Axe's grip on her thigh tightened unconsciously, but he stilled his lips and screwed his eyes up tighter, his thumb of the hand gripping her hand stroking up and down the nape of her neck. His voice softened, marginally. "Say it."

Delilah had lost track of Charlie around her second drink, and then lost track of Nora around her fourth or fifth. And somewhere around the time she spotted either one of them again, she had lost track of how many drinks she had. It wasn't unusual for Delilah to lose track of things at a party, it actually happened quite often. But there was one thing she was for certain she didn't lose track of (or rather forget about) at this particular party was her boyfriend.

Because she didn't have one anymore. That is apparently what happened when you get drunk and forget about your Canadian boyfriend back in England and make out with a french man in France. And didn't it sound like such an international tragedy when she thought about it that way. Not that any of that matter now. Now Delilah Spinnet was single so it didn't matter who she snogged in the middle of the dance floor.

The fact that she didn't exactly remember who asked her to dance at this point in time, was a different story. Whoever it was had spectacular snogging skills so, she wasn't going to complain any time soon.

"I just so happen to have access to the V.I.P. lounge. There are couches there." she suggested as the song faded running her hand up his side. "I am sure it is far less crowded."

There were two people that Richard decided he had a bone to pick with after this party. "Of course it's a good idea!" Sam had said when Richard had asked if attending the birthday party for a player was a good idea for the impartial doctor. "Worst case scenario: you go home sloshed and alone," Ethan had added, "and you don't get sloshed, ever, mate. I've tried." Then they had both agreed "nothing could go wrong" and Richard now decided that those were the most damning of all words.

Richard was not a heavy drinker. Not even close. Yet, somehow he'd managed to drink enough at the party that he was not his normal, wallflower self. He blamed the pretty waitress that had limited him to one question per drink, which were free so she kept them coming as he got increasingly bold until she stopped coming back. Like a kicked puppy, Richard had wandered off looking for the new love of his life and suddenly found another -- Delilah Spinnet to be exact.

Honestly? Richard hadn't expected her to say yes when he'd asked her to dance. He knew how drunk he had to look, but it was a night of whims and what was one more? Her stupid smile and nod had made him make a stupid smile and nod, and then he was suddenly searching for sober as he tried not to step on her feet and keep her entertained. Then she'd said he talked too much. Him! Richard The Silent! Merlin's bloody beard!

So he'd kissed her. It seemed logical at the time and she really, really didn't seem to mind. In fact, Richard was pretty sure she was enjoying herself because she was leaning into him and, and her hands. Her hands were moving and they were holding on instead of pushing away so, so this was good, yeah? Then she asked if he wanted to go to the VIP Room where there were couches and his mind just sort of stopped.

"C-couches, yeah?" Richard stammered as he tried desperately to focus on what she was saying and look into her eyes, which were quite close to his because she was so bloody tall. He wasn't used to girls being so tall.

Chuckling and feeling a bit silly, but not caring because he was sloshed, Richard found her hands with his and kissed her cheek.

"Lead the way, mi'lady," he mused against her ear as he teetered back on his heel, waiting to be tugged around by the hand and knowing he was going to enjoy every moment of it now, and regret it all tomorrow. But that was tomorrow. He'd worry about it then.

Michal!
[info]alongday
2012-09-09 04:41 pm UTC (link)
Charlie Spinnet really had a way about him. Therese had practically been bombarded at her office by the Kestrel, begging, pleading, nearly demanding if she cared about his life to come and help set up Rupert's birthday party. He could have asked her in a much simpler, quieter manner and she would have agreed, but it was amusing to see the lengths he would go to get her to come along. Of course she would help! Rupert was a friend of hers, a good one, one that she liked hanging out with even when they weren't shagging. They were adults, it was fine!

It was fine. Therese had been doing her very best to avoid quidditch events, which had worked out splendidly because Michal made it a point to never show up either, so to see some of the players and people she had become friendly with over the years was rather nice. She really did love the Kestrels and had missed spending time with them. Charlie had of course been increasingly grateful for her help and had made a bit of a scene by carrying her into the VIP booth, but after that bit Therese was left to her own devices. It was just so much fun! And she wasn't even drinking, that much! Only a little! It was definitely a combination of her excitement of seeing some old friends and the pretty candy-like drinks that had caused her to send a rather exclamation point-filled speed owl to Michal, telling him that he should come! He would have a lot of fun, and she wanted to see him.

That had to be about two hours ago, but Therese couldn't be bothered to really be sure. After a rousing chorus of happy birthday (which she sung in French!), Rupert attempting to drag her over to Holly Troy to initiate a snogging session (which did not happen thanks to her razor sharp nails), and literally getting circles danced around her by Tony Chang (which she enjoyed but got dizzy from!), Therese was still feeling rather happy and energized. That might have to do with the latest green drink she had, which she was sure was more revitalizing potion than actual alcohol---she could not be sure which would have been worse.

Oh, well! She sipped her drink through the straw (mustache adorned straw, obviously) daintily, watching the crowd as she allowed her feet to rest. Therese was proud of herself; she'd kept her shoes on this entire time.

Michal was not one to lie to himself, so he openly admitted that walking into this party after it had so obviously started hours ago was an... interesting visual experience. Interesting, yes, that was a word to use. Judgement worthy, also, was an appropriate word to use. It wasn't something that particularly struck him as he walked, it was just... the general atmosphere. And the fact that half of these people here had matches tomorrow, that was also noteworthy.

So... excellent! He was glad he had decided to drop by, and witness first had the beginning of wrecks on the pitch tomorrow. If he felt himself to be heavily invested in this venture, Michal would have sought out a Magpie, but someone else had called him here, making her much more important than an hysterical, albeit potentially tragic, memory to look back on.

Now thinking back to Therese, Michal realized he had no bloody idea where she would be. Or even if she was still here. Seth had mentioned he would be here tonight as well, so he supposed he could find him and ask... but that would lead to questions Michal simply did not feel like dealing with, even coming from his best friend.

That probably had something to do with that Michal purposely left out all things related to Therese Bonaccord when he spoke with Seth. Eh, there was a time and a place for everything.

After some searching, and witnessing things that were just plain confusing, he finally found her. Sitting. Well, that was a good sign, he supposed. Michal Conway approached Therese casually, as if it was nothing new.

"Mustaches, really?" he asked skeptically, though the grin forming on his face was giving him away. She was amusing. As was these theme.

Tristan had never been a fan of big parties like this, really, if only because there was such a potential for things to go wrong -- and also because by arriving here, he was going to be in the Tattler tomorrow. Oh, he didn't have any illusions about that -- but it did make him even more careful than he might've been before. He had Psyke to think about, and he'd hate for her to be embarrassed by him in-person or later, on paper.

That's why he's leaning against the bar, casually sipping at a shirley temple. It's tasty, he can drink a lot of them without his teeth feeling all fuzzy, and most people just assumed that it had some sort of alcohol in it. The best drink to monitor a crowd with, Tristan thought. The problem with being one of the few sober people at a place like this was that it was almost physically painful to watch some of the blokes around him, flirting with women who barely remembered their own names -- and still managing to strike out.

At least he'd always had his good looks going for him in that department. He'd be the first to admit that he wasn't great at 'bar talk' -- but fortunately, that wasn't something she needed to think about right now.

After Wendy went off to take a break, Psyke decided that she too should probably get off the dance floor, but she really wasn't happy about it. She wouldn't be able to walk around in a dress like this, or heels this high, or even be able to stay up past nine o'clock for much longer. She couldn't even drink. Why had she thought it would be a great idea to get off her contraception potions? Huh? Why? WHY?

Right. She wanted to make little Tristan babies.

Psyke sulked off the dance floor in search of her husband. She really was excited about being pregnant, but the news was still rather fresh in her head. Very, very fresh, as in she'd just taken the test and found the results out when Tristan knocked on the door to tell her that Lavender's sitter for the night was there, and that they should go. Psyke had just shoved the test down the sink and followed her husband out, ready to put the surprise to the back of her head for the night. She would tell him tomorrow, over breakfast, after everything had settled in her head. First, she wanted to dance.

When she finally found Tristan, her demeanor automatically picked up. Maybe she shouldn't feel so distraught at the news. Having a baby was a good thing, just look at her LavLav! Psyke just didn't want to be pregnant, that's the part that sucked. Maybe it would be different, at least this time she had figured it out in an appropriate amount of time.

"Is there alcohol in this?" she asked Tristan, taking the drink out of his hand and giving it a sniff.

Someone had once told her that she shouldn't drink firewhisky, because it made her more angry than anything else. Normally she stuck to those rules (and for good reason, because it did make her crosser than a steer that had just been branded), but tonight it had been someone's birthday, and there had been a free round of drinks -- and she'd just remembered how much she liked the taste of it, all right?

She had a sitter and she was trying very hard not to think about what it might be like to date someone again, so she had to keep her mind occupied elsewhere. Unfortunately for one Delilah Spinnet, Victoria's focus and concentration had been for some time on the other woman whose paws were all over some man that she surely barely knew. She narrowed her gaze and swung her cowboy boots out so that she swivelled around on her bar stool, threw herself to her feet, and .... immediately grabbed onto the edge of the bar for balance.

Oh, she was going to break her face...

Kate was in a mood and it wasn't a good one. This was the first time she'd been able to drink in nearly a year and her new drink to drunk ratio was wholly unacceptable. Kate prided herself on being able to best the blokes, but tonight she'd been out-drank by one of the bloody reserves and that would not do.

Now, Kate was stumbling drunk and a loud one at that. Telling anyone within earshot about how much her fresh, "mummy tits" hurt, which he found to be hilarious and even offered to nurse the birthday boy. Spinnet's face had turned a nice shade of green when she'd told him, much to Kate's delight and then she was off to the bar, for another drink, when she was tripped up because someone kicked out their legs into her path.

"You bleeding cunt!" Kate shrieked after she'd been sent tumbling. She'd seen that it was a woman, but hadn't caught a face on her drunken topple to the floor.

Pushing herself up, Kate flipped around with a nasty glare and a toss of her red locks. Her eyes widened a little to see Cadwallader looking just as angry, gripping the bar.

"Oh," she mused bitterly. Kate assumed, of course, that the trip had been intentional. "Another jealous bint for me to step on," she spat as she slowly got to her feet, using the bar as support. "Just lovely."

Estella grinned with pride, her hands on her hips and she stood quite delicately on the tips of her transfigured pointe shoes. What good ballerina didn't know the spell to turn any set of heels into a pair of the shoes that caused her even more pain? Hmm?

The wizard that had challenged her dropped back down to his heels. He was one of the United's reserves, a freckly bloke that was one too many beers down the hatchet to realize he was competing in a ballet competition. Estella herself was feeling rather nice, having stuck with the multicolored drinks. It didn't taste like alcohol, and that made it much easier to drink.

Whoops!

She dropped back down to the ground, her shoes magically turning into flats that didn't bind her toes together painfully. The wizard stumbled back and disappeared into the crowd, and Estella giggled greatly. Now, now, she was having a good time, but she needed to find that husband of hers. That very sexy husband of hers. That very not-a-party-goer husband of hers whom she had dragged because they had not been out on a date night in months because they had been so busy.

Estella turned to go search for this husband of hers, and ended up crashing into a wall of a human---"Caden!" she yelped happily.

Joy was having entirely too much fun at this party. It wasn't often that she found herself not chin deep in motherly duties. Finn had told her to have fun. So what was she doing? Insanely fun things like getting smashed and dancing with anyone (gender of no consequence) who would have her. She danced so much that she'd lost her shoes and purse at some point (Finn was supposed to be guarding them) so she could keep dancing and not fall or worry about silly things like blisters.

As soon as the music slowed for a song set, though, Joy pouted and pulled a face at the sight of all the dancers pairing off. "Couples," she said with an air of disgust before spinning around and looking for her husband. As soon as she spotted him, Joy was off, full speed, and tossing herself at him.

"Phi-ne-as!" she whined loudly before pushing out her bottom lip. She knew she was being obnoxious, but she didn't care. "I want a dance with you," she added as she twisted in-place, on her toes, and smiled at him.

Finn did not dance and had been standing beside Caden for most of the night, by the bar, nursing the same drink for about an hour or two. He had let Joy off to have her fun, because Lord knew they both needed to get out, but his main priority was to make sure that the United men were out of the club and home by eleven. If some party for a player he didn't really care for was going to mess up their weekend and their title shot, Finn was going to be one pissed off captain.

Still, with his curfew in place, he was having a good time. No one even seemed to be acknowledging who the party was actually for, and while he was prone to hate the Kestrels and everything about them, who was he too deny himself and his wife a good, free time with the people who actually liked the most?

Joy appeared from seemingly nowhere, like a rocket. He grinned at her little display and mimicked her with a bit of a twist of his own, minus the tip-toes. It made him happy to see her this way, and it reminded him of their days before the kids...

...which was literally like one day, but still.

"I don't know if you can keep up," he said, his arm going around her waist to pull her inappropriately close for such a public place.
