Checking on the home team
Commander Fontaine, Deputy Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., made the rounds when the special ops team came back in. After their last disastrous outing, she wanted to make sure they were still in one cohesive piece. The reports had been favorable.

She hadn't met the newest member yet, though she knew the contents of his file. She'd been the one to have it sent to Sammy for consideration. Her little gun nut, and Walker and Dugan, could always use someone with the ability to build a better gun.

Sammy's report had been terse but informative. The others' a little more informative. Landon was next on her list.

"I'm sure I'll still visit the South on occasion. When I can't get good pancakes anywhere else." She chuckled softly. "This is what happens when I drive. I say provocative things and you can't do anything about it until we stop. Good planning, I'd say."

It was also a good way to divert his brain from the visit ahead in Leavenworth. No sense for him to worry about it all the way there.

"I can provide persuasion for the making of omelets. My ways shall have you making them any time I ask...once we create a kitchen for you." Jason says. That went on his mental to-do list.

There is silence for a bit and then...

"99 bottles of beer on the wall, 99 bottles of beer...
you take one down and pass it around,
98 bottles of beer on the wall!" Jason sings.

He will let then sing as long as Sam lets him until she decides to join in and they'll sing together.

"Yes, and I'll tell Santa I said so, to his face!" Jason jokes.

"Because why bother learning lullabies when you can just make up stories and such. I think I'll use this tactic later on in life, except the Corn Weevils will be real, and I'll show everyone a picture of the woman responsible for bringing them about!" Jason says, aiming his camera phone at Sammy.

He takes a picture, then chuckles.

"Yep, totally showing children everywhere who is the mortal enemy of the Corn Weevil Alliance." he says.

	"I'm not worried so much about another war, because it'll happen. Only what S.H.I.E.L.D.'s role will be when it happens." Her hands tightened a little on the wheel. "It's not. People either forget or they're too scared to realize that pound per pound, mutants are the greatest weapons available. It's only making a bad situation worse." She shrugged. "S.H.I.E.L.D. can't do anything about it. We are the mutant response team and we're going to butt heads with the Mutant Response Division when it comes to any activity in the US. The next world war could very well be based on mutant relations and so far the world's running track record on the subject sucks."

Two days ago, Jason would have asked if she recruited him because he mad a "great weapon". Two days ago, before he'd kissed her for the first time, he would have wondered if Sammy was using him.

Now, he didn't wonder.

"Yeah, especially after everything that's happened just /this/ year alone. The stuff at the Statue of Liberty was bad, but...3,000 dead people in Fargo really set mutants back a long way. I still want to know what the bastards who did it were hoping to accomplish." Jason says.

"Don't apologize. I kinda like seein' you so passionate about somethin'. It's a stark contrast from your normally collected and cool personality." Jason tells her, shifting in his seat a bit to look out the window.

"You are right, though. As long as the people who did this are still out there, other mutants will suffer, no matter what it is they can do." he says quietly.
