Vampirella - its not so much that its inherently worse than Plan 9, monster vs. monster flicks, and so on - its that those things at least have the excuse of no budget, bad inspiration, nothing to work with... something. Vampirella had a hint of a budget, had a story that had made the character actually known and passably popular enough to justify a movie, etc., and then proceeded to blow every single possible aspect.

The acting was horrendous, the story was awful, the "vampires" followed neither mythological vampire logic nor the vampire logic of the Vampirella comics, it only vaguely resembled the story already laid out for them that they had to just not totally screw up in order to have a minimal success - and one of the most ludicrously but famously endowed female characters of the 1970's that helped /create/ the 'comic female build' trend was played by a fairly petite, lightly endowed woman who did not make up for it by demonstrating any particular athleticism - so somehow, in Hollywood, with all the starving starlets to choose from and body jobs galore - Vampirella couldn't even get boobs right.

In movie terms, that's not just fail, that's truly epic fail.

Then again...I just hate movies where the entire plot is basically "let's blow things up".

I'd argue that. Two through five - yes, absolutely. And five was a complete waste of everyone's time. One and six, however - how many movies are there out there where the hero, especially one played by a big star, actively loses in the end? Unlike the middle ones, the 'message' isn't 'this guy kicks ass', its about perseverence and the little guy standing up to the odds - he doesn't win either fight - but both are better movies for it.

When I was staying with Dad, he rented a bunch of "girl-appropriate movies" that he thought I'd like.

I enjoyed most of them, but most of the ones with Jennifer Lopez? Pass.
