Heaven Can't Wait (open to Champions)
Harmony always opted to go to St. Vincent's for mass on Sunday mornings. They were one of the rare Catholic churches that still did sunrise services once a month, services that had been Harmony's favorite since she was a little girl back in Kansas. Nowadays they were more than just favored; now they were practical, given how nocturnal Sin generally was. He'd been very honest from the beginning--he didn't do the "God thing." Much to her surprise this hadn't put her off. Harmony chose to accept it and not to press. He never stopped her from worship and she appreciated that. It was just an item of life they could not share but had found a middle ground. This was, she thought, how relationships were supposed to work. It didn't mean that she had to completely leave Sin out of the little things that made her sunrise mass so important to her. Coffee and pastries were also part of the routine for her and sunrise services played to her advantage: this early in the morning there were now crowds, only the devoted slipping from the cathedral and onto the morning-lit streets.

Smiling to herself, she paid for breakfast before slowly walking up the street and back to Sin's. Her mind was already on surprising him, thoughts far from anything more than that. Distracted, she misses the way the shadows pull from the corners of buildings and that the birds have stopped singing. She misses everything until she hears a rustle of wings and then a blood-curdling screech-like noise right behind her as a dark, winged creature descends from the sky and heads right for her sending the other people on the street scattering. And the winged beast is not the only one, just the largest in what appears to be a small army of gargoyles come to life.

Harmony screams.

Screaming wasn't something that Sin expected to hear half a block form his apartment. Of course, at this hour, anyone screaming meant bad news, and believe it or not, he actually lived in one of the nicer areas of New Orleans - at least an area with lower crime rates anyways.

Drawing himself from bed, Sin rushed to a window and couldn't help but just... blink.. at the sight of what he saw. Gargoyles weren't something he had seen in a very long time, and it was never clear who exactly they worked for even when he had.

And they were attacking Harmony!

Without even thinking, Sin immediately broke all his spells, letting his full and real self come into being. Then with a creak of tendons, he spread his wings wide and leapt out of the window, heading for Harmony's fearful screams.

	Corey had actually been handling a few religious rites himself, pouring a small bottle of milk out at the sunrise. Since he was up, he'd decided to see how early the studio at the arts center was open. This perfectly normal errand was suddenly deterred, what with the screaming and all. He ran towards the sound. 	Irina was out taking a walk. She had always been a morning person, but last night had been a restless night and she wanted to walk to clear her head. Her father reappearing and being alive had been a shock. Her father was resourceful, she would give him that, but she had never expected him to be alive. Eliza had been on her way back from a different church. She wasn't a deeply religious person but she still tried to go to church once in a while. When she saw the attack on the church. Blaring her car horn at someone who was too slow Eliza pulled off to somewhere where she could do a quick change without being seen.

Thank God for pouches. She tucks the keys into her uniform belt and rushes to go help. The bright red uniform is obvious to anyone and so is that rather grim looking mask but she's on her way to help people not scare them.

	Argo had not yet been back from his night out. She had been a most... delightful young woman and he had enjoyed her company greatly, before their pursuits had turned more carnal. He was close enough in his return to the Champions headquarters that he could hear the screams. He headed toward the source. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

The large, winged beast that was tearing down the street after the small blonde was not the only creature ruining an otherwise picturesque Sunday morning. Moving in a sick precision as though they were part of a demented aerial unit gargoyles--honest to goodness gargoyles that had previously been perched high on buildings--swooped down from the skies. There were four of them in all, two on the left and two on the right each of them a living stone. They noticed immediately when assistance arrived on the scene. The largest of the four targeted Eliza, his face a maw of twisted stone teeth as beady eyes honed in on the crimson of her clothes. With a sharp cry the beast zoomed in on her, his rock-bodied compatriots creating diversions as they smashed into buildings and swooped about terrorizing those unfortunate enough to still be on the streets.

Behind them, though, was another creature. It was flesh and bone and feather, all silver and black as it descended from the skies. Massive--nearly the size of a small aircraft--it dwarfed even the first monster that was set on Harmony. This beast had eyes only for Sin and it landed on the street furthest back from the pack, plucking up and hurling a passerby into a building with a bone-rattling thud.

The beast passed over her in its first pass and Harmony hit the ground. It's cry was deafening and she could feel the force of its vibrations. For a moment she was dazed by it but then she pulled the energy of its sounds into herself, using the energy to hurl the outdoor furniture from a nearby cafe at it. It gave her a bit of time; she was able to turn and run sending her literally running into Corey. He was the only person she saw not fleeing the scene.

	The delay that Irina causes is just enough that the blade slows long enough for Harmony to not only develop a shield of sorts but also to put a little distance between herself and the flaming sword. She can feel the heat, though, and as the beast regathers its attack, she can feel her skin start to burn about her chest, right where the point is aimed. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	Time for yet another tactic. Irina formed a portal under her own feet and fell into just as the shock wave hit. She fell out of another portal right above the thing's head. She pulled out two knives and fell onto the thing's head. Knives went down, aiming right for the thing's eyes. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	As Corey starts to pull together breakfast supplies, Harmony washes her hands...and realizes that her shirt is still bloody and therefore unsuitable for breakfast. Not to mention semi-exposing her.
