End of Season party! For the 3rd

Drystan did not usually consider himself a sore loser. He had experienced enough defeats in his career to understand that winning was sometimes as much luck as it was skill—the latter of which he had plenty, the former he was starting to doubt he had any. He would even go so far as to say this was one of the top seasons he'd ever played. Losing the Cup might not be such a hardship, in that light. But to lose to the team he considered the most unsportsmanlike in the League was just an insult to injury. To have lost to them for the third time in the season was, in his perfectly reasonable and justified opinion, grounds for murder.

But a lifetime sentence in Azkaban would leave behind a wife and three children who would likely be just fine without him, but he'd miss them. So mass murder was off the table for tonight, at the very least.

Press snapped pictures outside the admittedly-abandoned looking building of 23 High Street, and Drystan knew there were more inside. Entering the rundown lobby, by-passing the elevator with the out-of-order sign, they made their way up the long flight of stairs to the grand doors of the first floor landing and into the—holy Mer—

Of course, the invitation specified formal wear, but Drystan hadn't honestly been expecting a high-brow formal occasion from the Kestrels. It was a ballroom. There was emerald green positively everywhere. There was something that looked suspiciously like a string ensemble. A bar, where he fancied he would spend as much time as possible, was in the corner. Platters with hors d'oeuvres and glass flutes zoomed by. Having stopped moving, wearing a stupefied expression, Bess had to tug his arm to get him to continue his stride.

"Hell," he muttered, pulling a grim face at the ostentatious yet somehow tasteful décor. Lifting their linked hands, he kissed the back of hers while surveying the spectacle before him.

"Five minutes? Five minutes isn't too soon."

ooc: Quidditch players/personnel + their guests! BLACK TIE! Party is on the first floor in this cool but creepy rundown building. Have fun! :D

Axe pulled disgustedly at the collar strangling him. Black-tie formal. Did they conveniently forget the hosting team had gallivanted across Germany to such a troublesome degree that the UK tabloids had picked up the story published in the local papers? Or the rampant misbehavior of the team for the rest of the season?

No, he knew, they remembered exactly what the Kenmare Kestrels had done in the past season, and their manager was trying desperately to rehabilitate their image. He scoffed, yanking the bothersome collar of his dressrobes further away from his Adam's apple as he waited for the doors of the lift to open, to take him to the fourth floor where the event was.

And that was another thing! Who wanted some stuffy celebration of the end of the playing season? They hurled out words like ballroom, and string ensemble, and other things that made him want to throttle someone. Was it perhaps the slightest bit cool how the Wizarding world parties often popped up in the most surprising of places, provided full-scale amusement and entertainment, then disbanded with a snap, not leaving a trace behind? Well, maybe a little, but—not this time!

It probably wouldn't have been so bad if their manager and the coordinating witch Q.U.A.B.B.L.E. had sent over hadn't tried to include Axe in every small detail. Attire? (Casual! Very Casual—no) Black-tie, of course. An open bar? There had better be. How many reporters were they giving passes to for the event? None, but Axe was vetoed as if they hadn't even heard him. The inaneness went on and on, and to save himself from being driven absolutely mad, Axe remembered actually plunging his hand into his pocket for his wand. He didn't know what he was going to do, but it was going to be satisfying, and he wouldn't have to be party to this—this party-planning, and—no, he may actually have been going mad, if he was thinking of doing this.

Instead he stroked his wand lovingly and told himself he'd been ousted from the UK for three years for maiming another highly skilled player for life—was he really so willing to subject himself to the same sentence because he lost his patience with an overly enthusiastic party-planner?

So he Apparated out of the office after perhaps one rude hand gesture.

Now, he was late, and the blasted doors were taking forever to open. Snarling by the time the lift finally arrived, he waltzed inside and was confronted with a panel with buttons on it.

A lot of buttons.

He hated these things. As if the ones in the Ministry weren't bad enough, now he had to ride some decrepit and run down one that he could not make heads nor tails on how to navigate. Axe took a wild guess and pushed, a chime echoing after he presumably selected his floor. Slumping against the wall, he waited impatiently for the thing to move.

"Wait!" he heard from vaguely outside the lift. "Hold the lift!"

The 'lift' brought him to attention. He was not sharing this suffocating box with anyone else. Those doors had to slide close immediately.

But which button? He stabbed futilely.

Rose had actually been enjoying herself--- until in a sudden frenzy she remembered she hadn't fed the cat all day. So, with a quick wave to Danielle and Donovan, she left to pop back home to a borderline murderous feline that proved to be difficult to feed in a floor-length dress. It had taken longer than she expected, but knowing that Danielle and Donovan were hopefully having some resemblance of an enjoyable time eased her worries.

After their scare, Rose had wanted to give them something that would hopefully make them feel a little better--- and what was better than dressing up nice to partake in luxurious activities all night?

But now she wanted to get back, perhaps finally meet Thomas' Samantha--- hence the rushing to the lift. She wrapped her hand around the door, initially happy to have made it before it closed. She swayed slightly to catch her breath, only looking up to the other person inside who had presumably held it for her after composing herself.

Was it possible to violently loose your breath after just catching it? Apparently so. Rose teetered on her heels, feeling unrealistically uncomfortable and caught . She knew who this man was. She did not want to get on the lift with him, but what choice did she have now? It would be incredibly rude to have made him wait, hold the door, and then decide not to ride after seeing his face. No one could afford being that rude to the practical host of the party, let alone her of all people.

Fiercely biting the inside of her lip, Rose ducked her head low and slipped inside to the furthest corner, which really wasn't that far at all considering how small the lift was. The question of whether or not the infamous Axbanger would have cared if she blatantly choose to opt out was not something she thought of until she was already inside. Somehow she figured it wouldn't have bothered him in the slightest.

Adrian!

2012-02-29 04:36 am UTC (link)
Maggie supposed she looked like a third year deeply in love with the prefect sitting across the room. It was how she felt, that strange twisty feeling in her chest as she stared across the ballroom at Adrian. The people moved and danced and stood in her gaze but she couldn't be bothered to look anywhere else. It wasn't as if she had much to distract her; she'd become a bit of a social pariah since the wedding, and as this was her first public outing, it seemed as if no one really knew how to behave around her. Her teammates gave her hugs and kisses, and of course her brother chatted a bit before being swept away. Odette was doing all she could, but there was no reason to keep her away from the husband she barely got to see these days.

The flash of a camera made her blink rapidly and lose her train of thought. Her face heated up as The Tattler's signature hot pink tag swung loosely around the photographer's neck. He looked quite pleased to be capturing a shot of her looking lovesick and lonely, and Maggie quickly turned away, only to hear and feel more flashes. Merlin---there were so many more interesting things going on tonight than the girl who'd been left at the altar. She would just...she probably looked so pathetic, so miserable and it hurt so much not to be able to stand with Adrian like she had so many times before. That longing was what hurt the most, and now with her latest secret it was simply unbearable.

Without waiting another second Maggie shot to her feet, holding up the fabric of her dress so she wouldn't trip. It was suddenly feeling very hot in here and she needed to catch her breath. The doors of the ballroom swung open for her with a spell and she shot away, wondering if there was any need to stay. Adrian had said he wanted to talk to her, but she assumed that had been about his trade. Maggie followed a cool breeze and it led her to an empty and quiet red carpeted staircase, one that must have been used many times for spectacular entrances and announcements of the grandest kind. She went up a few steps before sitting, taking off her shoes and stretching out across the step. If she was going to sit all night feeling miserable for herself, she may as well be comfortable.

Adrian was really unsure why they had allowed press into this event, as it only proved to be a great annoyance. No, he did not want to talk about his trade with his ex-fiancée's brother, just as equally as he did not want to address the current status of him and said estranged fiancée and child. Why would that be appropriate material to discuss? The press was relentless, and it made him feel like it was impossible to approach Maggie without fifty other eyes keenly watching on with bated breath. That wasn't how he wanted to be with her, it was difficult enough with just them, openly including others would top the list of stupid things he had been doing all week.

He pressed his lips together stoically, shifting in his chair only slightly as a standing figure blocked his view. He had just been watching the-- thing--- that--- Maggie. It was always Maggie. They had ended up across the room from each other, and it would be a bold-faced lie if he didn't admit he had spent most of his time tonight split between watching her and looking down at the ground.

Suddenly--- where was she going? Was she leaving? He hadn't--- Adrian shot up just as quickly as Maggie had, lingering for a moment before swiftly deciding to casually follow her. There could be something wrong, or she really was leaving, and he didn't want to leave any of their encounters without an exchange... just as he had decided he had lost her, he hadn't.

A small, albeit anxious, smile appeared as he looked at her, and Adrian quickly shoved his hands into his pockets. "I thought--- you might be leaving. Or something," he began to vaguely explain, moving his shoulder slightly as he spoke. Pausing for a moment, he released one of his hands to rub the back of his head. "It's kind of unbearable in there, right?" Unbearable was an understatement.

Derek!

Not too surprisingly, Mira did not feel guilty about attending this Quidditch-related event. If it had been a couple of months ago, yes, she'd admit that being here would have made her feel on edge. However, that was then, and this was now. The now where she had friends here that were not because of him, and it felt like it was entirely possible she could enjoy herself without worrying too much about running into Seth.

She would not feel unwelcome because of him.

It didn't hurt that Derek was here, either. She had been pleasantly surprised when he'd mentioned that he would be coming, something Mira knew she should have realized in hindsight was more likely than her attending. Nonetheless, what they exactly were... it didn't bother her that it was unclear what they were. She just--- he made her feel relaxed, and she liked that feeling. And he was normal. Not to mention he was a sweet kisser. She enjoyed that too.

Regardless of all that, Mira first and foremost was here for her lovely date, Victoria. Not wanting her friend to feel like she had brought a poor date, Mira stayed with her for a good portion of the night, genuinely enjoying her friend's, who had been entirely too busy as of lately, presence. But after some time, they had drifted from each other, leaving time to wander. Which had lead her here, standing with Derek as they talked about Quidditch, the obvious theme of the night.

"My pick.... that one," she pointed, referring to their picks of which players had the highest proportion of celebrity to drunkenness. Whoever found the most famous and drunkest person won. It was proving to be a rather fun game.

A party was just the right call for Derek tonight. No one was more shocked than he when he realized he actually wanted to go. The Catapults may not have pulled as far into the play-offs as they wanted, but his loyalties lay a bit more Kenmare-side, so a celebration seemed in order. And Vinny seemed almost relieved about the whole thing, so Derek felt relatively no guilt about being so upbeat. For the first time in such a long, long time, life seemed okay, if he even dared to think it. The day of their tour trip was fast dawning, and the ambivalence Derek had started out with had quickly blossomed into full-blown excitement. He'd only asked to come because he was the slightest bit worried about Vinny being by himself… but more, because he balked at the idea of Vinny deserting him for however many weeks.

But he put in the request for leave from work, and felt his heart lighten at the idea of that alone. He started to read up on the cities he wanted to visit, even asking his mum about the best places she'd been, and this… this was going to be good.

Following the direction Mira pointed in, he cocked his head in serious consideration and gave it a rating of… "7." Out of 10, not bad, but he was determined to win, so he scanned the crowd while casually draping his arm across her shoulders. Derek just found himself having so much fun with this girl, he was almost sad to be leaving. So he resolved to have as much fun as possible in this lavish setting, where she looked ravishing and he rather dapper, and make it a night to remember. Not that she was his date, of course. His own was off somewhere, hopefully having a smashing good time as well.

Although if anyone asked, Derek was private security detail for Mr Gudgeon and his WWN star date.

Speaking of which… he scanned the elegantly dressed crowd for them, just to check, and then struggled to keep his snort of amusement quiet.

"I think I'm the winner," he said, pointing the arm slung over her shoulder in the direction of his drunken, silly friends. "And I should get more points for there being two of them."

It had been decided that he was going to dance with every single, married, divorced, or willing woman he could get his hands on. With his job, Tony made friends all throughout the league, and felt comfortable joining in conversations with the Harpies to the Wasps, and then to mingle with the Cannons and Tornadoes. He loved his job, it made life with an almost four year old (Merlin!) rather chaotic, but he wouldn't have it any other way. If his job was boring, if he did the same thing every day, every week, every year, he would have sunk back into the depression he'd left Japan in after the fallout with Emi. Nights like this helped him realize that he was blessed, but when the girls went back to their dates and the women twittered back to their husbands he also was reminded about how terribly lonely he was.

Tony found his way to the bar, keeping a skip in his step so to not completely ruin the pleasant atmosphere he'd created for himself. The band was rather good and he kept his toes tapping while he waited for the bartender to bring his drink. Adrian had left his side ages ago, but that was all for the better; his friend had done nothing but suck the happiness out of the air for the last two months and Tony needed to breathe. He'd always be there for Adrian, but his best mate surely needed a swift kick in the ass.

He fiddled with the button of his jacket, hoping he looked all right. He knew every other bloke in the place was wearing a fancy suit or set of dress robes, but they were always attending these kinds of things. Tony didn't always make the guest list when it came to quidditch events, so maybe tonight he'd make someone notice him for something other than his moves on the dance floor.

For someone who hated the press and equally despised events that let them in and marked the fact that the Magpies did not win the cup as they did last year, Odette was actually in an uncharacteristically good mood. Noah was here, which she would admit was most likely behind 97% her sunny disposition. How could it not be? With the season officially over, she had nothing to distract her from the fact that he was not going to be home until June, and impromptu trips to Hogwarts weren't exactly something someone could do all the time. Being with him made her happy--- especially now since there was no longer the luxury of seeing each other everyday.

But now, Noah was off catching up with other people he knew, leaving her to wander through the crowd. She didn't particularly feel like bothering any of her teammates--- the off-season was a time for separation, in her opinion--- which left.... oh, there was Tony!

As she approached him, she had to admit, in the past she had always been frosty toward him purely because of his association with Adrian.... but from due to recent events, her had started to grow on her. He wasn't as bad at all as her brother, which begged the question as to why they were friends, but that wasn't exactly her business. Yet, anyway.

"Well don't you look dreamy," Odette said once she finally reached him, an easy smile on her face. A real smile, even, not like one of her multiple, and infamous, fake ones. He should really be honored. She leaned one elbow on the bar, crossing her legs as she stood.

Gleny!

He wouldn't say that he was drunk, but then again, wasn't that what all drunk people said? Vinny knew that this would be the last time he would see many of his friends for the next few weeks (months, even!) because his grand trip with Derek was soon to commence after this last official night of quidditch business. He was excited, he was eager, and he was desperate to leave England behind, even if it was only until preseason began.

His break up with Victoria had brought back a lot of memories and feelings that he had been managing through, but had not completely overcome. Vinny knew that some people were not just meant to be, but he couldn't help but feel guilty over things and hated being thought of as someone who would just---up and leave. But he couldn't handle it, he couldn't do it, and wouldn't it be cruel to lead her on than to let her go and find real happiness? Maybe it was just his way of justifying things, but the guilt remained nonetheless. His grand tour of the world was hopefully going to cure any remaining ailments he or Derek had from the war. 'Cure' as in allowing them to finally move on and get past the darkness that they both had been stuck in for so long.

Derek was off to a decent start, even though Mira was one of Victoria's close friends. He seemed to enjoy her, so Vinny had no problem when he'd lost his companion. It was of no big concern as he'd brought two dates to the event (which was a step up, as he had been ditched at New Year's by one Therese Bonaccord...). Derek was there to drink and for a last hurrah, but the lovely lady that he believed needed a happy night just as much, if not more, than he did.

"And here is your drink, milady," Vinny said in an exaggerated accent, offering Gleny her glass of pink something. "It smells of strawberries and fun."

"Thank you!" Gleny chimed, using both her hands to, as steadily as possible, grip her glass tightly. Pink really was her color--- why wasn't she wearing pink right now? ---Oh right, when she had been dress shopping, Tristan had picked out this dress as his favorite, so that was why she was wearing this dress because her son had said it made her look like a sparkling jewel. She liked sparkling jewels. Plus if her son---

"Strawberries and fun?!" she mimicked, her face brightening substantially at this statement. It did. A wide smile formed on her face as she closed her eyes for a couple of moments, longer than she realized, to contemplate this new realization.

See, Gleny had been feeling anxious about attending tonight, this event the kind she had always formerly attended with Gideon--- those shot she'd slipped before getting dressed had definitely eased her anxiety! But now it appeared her secret drinking was the most irresponsible act she had committed in over two years. She was fairly certain she was drunk. Drunk! It was a strange feeling! And not--- never this much, before. There was vague awareness to her substantial drunkenness, but she didn't really care, now did she?

Her eyelids flew suddenly open as she remembered they had been closed, and Gleny let out an excited squeak before sipping her pink drink of fun. "It does taste like fun!" she cheeped, looking up to Vinny. "Thank you good sir!"

Savannah?

Geoff had debated just not coming to this year-end thing and heading off for a few weeks or months of vacation, but he knew that would look terrible in the press ... and if there was anything his family tried to do, it was keep their noses clean in public. He glanced around for Savannah, hoping to spot her before the rest of the paparazzi flooded in around him and grilled him for how he felt about the 'betrayal' that his team manager had visited upon him.

Honestly, Geoff didn't feel as awful about it as he probably should have. He loved the United, but if the team dynamic just wasn't working the way that it used to, maybe a new player would be just the thing to make everyone work just that little bit harder to make the newbie look bad.

Savannah was positive that she was more upset about the trade than Geoffrey was – at first, anyway. Puddlemere United was a team that had several championships, and being asked to play for them was a very high honor, which was why she saw the trade as management saying that he just wasn’t good enough for them anymore. She may not have been an expert on Quidditch, but she knew that Geoff was a damn good player, and that he deserved to be on a team where his skills would be appreciated. All she could do was hope that this trade would work out, and that management knew what they were doing moving him to the Catapults. And if she could be selfish for just a moment, this trade also meant that she would be seeing much more of Carys, which only dawned on her when she thought about who his new teammates would be.

At least he hadn’t been drafted to the Falcons. While she and Seth were now on speaking terms, that didn’t mean she needed him to be in her life any more than he already was. Not that she thought he would be a hazard to the relationship she had with Geoff, which was turning out to be too good to be true, but it would just cause her unneeded aggravation, being around her boyfriend and her asshole of an ex-husband at the same time for the entirety of the season, not to mention pre-season.

Smoothing down the front of her dress, Savannah scanned the crowd, trying to find Geoff. She had something she needed to finish at work, which meant she had no choice but to arrive late. Standing up on her toes to try and give herself a little more height, in addition to the height already provided by her heels, her fingers fidgeting with the clutch in her hands. She often times felt she was either too under dressed, or too over dressed for these kinds of occasions, and this time was no exception. When her eyes finally did fall on her boyfriend, she automatically smiled, and her heels dropped back down to the floor, making her way through the sea of people to get to him. When she reached him, her hand reached out to twist her fingers around his, getting his attention, giving him a warm smile.

“Hello, handsome.”

Bess was a terribly sore loser, there really was no doubt about it. She was glad her daughter had a bit more tact than she because someone had to comfort Drystan after the match and not be a baby about it. Her husband had ended up hugging her and telling Bess that it would be all right, but she'd been so bloody invested this season! Of course she'd cared last year, and the year before and whatever---but this season. She wasn't working, she'd gone to every match, she'd talked to the rest of his team regularly, she had conversations about quidditch and the whole---the whole bloody sport, the whole bloody team felt like some extended part of her family and---she hated the Kestrels.

"Five minutes?" she drawled, unable to keep the put off look from her face. She let Drystan kiss her hand and she let out a long breath at the site of the quidditch cup sitting upon the Kenmare green cloth. Disgraceful. The United were perfect on parchment, and it just had to be raining, it was really the worst sort of victory for the Kestrels if you thought about it, how were those conditions fair to prove---she could go on for hours. "That's a dreadfully long time."

Really, if it hadn't been an official Q.U.A.B.B.L.E. event and if her husband had not just spoiled her with the most gorgeous pieces of jewelry for Valentine's and her birthday, Bess would have made it a point to not show up. But her gold stone jewelry and her blue dress would hopefully make up for the terribly green decor of the night. Bess turned her gaze toward Drystan, the look of disdain still evident on her face.

His scowl tilted up in a smirk as this had to be the first time Bess had ever wanted to cut out early on a party, let alone encouraged him to fuss about his own reluctance to be there. Drystan privately doubted whether or not he'd be able to stomach the shade of green again, having seen more of it in the last five minutes than he ever wanted to in his life.

Everything about this season had been banjaxed from the start, it felt like. Professionally, Nick's pregnancy causing an uproar with the management, throwing the first match against the Harpies, and then somehow the mucking up of his personal life became about the game, and everything afterward—it somehow didn't even matter that this was one of the best-scoring seasons he'd ever played. Nevermind that they ended into finals topping the league, oh no. The 1982-1983 season had not been a friend to Drystan Fawcett.

Compounding his foul mood was the fact that not only was Geoffrey Brand leaving the United, but who else to replace him but the opponent he'd hated most in school? Whatever good humour his smirk had sparked seemed to be siphoned away by the black cloud taking up permanent residence above his head. It was a lot easier to be in a pleasant mood when you had a five-year-old commanding you do so in a bossy-with-a-hint-of-fear voice.

But he was perversely pleased that his vicious mood was one with his wife's. Drystan imagined they made a formidable pair tonight, even if his hair was particularly unruly tonight.

"Very well," he sighed in reluctance, pulling her closer to him. "Two minutes it shall be."

Samantha Cadwallader felt like a nervous wreck. She was looking forward to the evening, of course, and had done so since Thomas had invited her in the first place. So even though she was halfway around the world, involved in some rather dangerous work, she couldn't help but find her mind wandering and trying to figure out every detail of her outfit and the like--so it was probably for the best that she returned back to England on Wednesday as scheduled. She was in the midst of frantically rushing about her apartment when she heard the now familiar pop of someone apparating into her flat.

"Is that you, Thomas?" she called from her bedroom, going through her jewelry to find something appropriate for the occasion. She had never been to something black tie before, she had no idea what to expect or what would happen--but she needed to breathe. Just relax and breathe.

Thomas really hoped she wasn't expecting anyone else at this time. Who else could be knocking at her door---no, no. He stopped himself before his mind went on a ridiculous tangent that caused him to worry for the rest of the night and probably into the next morning. Samantha was just being polite, and Thomas needed to get used to the idea that not everyone was crazy or a raging psycho bitch.

"It's me," he called out, not moving from the spot he had landed in. Thomas resisted the urge to rock back and forth on his heels, in case she came out and saw him; he didn't want her to think he was bored already or anything like that. He straightened up, unsure if he should hold her flowers in front or behind his back. Surprise? No, he had joked about getting her a corsage, but he had figured that flowers for her place would be more----

"Wow," he said when she appeared. Thomas smiled brightly and tried to straighten his shoulders even more. "These are for you." He stepped forward, presenting the flowers and with only a slight hesitation brought on by how stunning she looked he leaned forward to kiss her hello. Or just to kiss her.

Charlie? then scott later maybe?

2012-03-01 03:47 am UTC (link)
Delilah figetted alone in the lift as it rose up to the floor where the party was being held running at the very least thirty minutes late. Her duel that morning had run much later than she had anticipated and she ended up owling Charlie to tell him to go ahead with out her and she would meet him there. She was pretty sure that he wouldn't mind at all as even though he was taking her as his 'official' date chances were still good that she was going to be ditched by the end of the night anyways. Which was completely fine because she was definitely planning on going home with Scott anyways.

Which is why she just didn't understand why he threw such a fit over the dress she had originally picked out. Delilah would have never even shown it to him had she known that he would flat out refuse to even give her a ticket if she wore such a dress. When she finally managed to get home to change, she frowned at the dress Charlie had picked out for her to wear. Not that she didn't like it, because she did, but she just didn't want to wear a dress her brother picked out.

So she picked another dress that she had bought a few weeks back because she couldn't not buy it. Her reasoning being she would have a reason to wear it eventually and ta-da, here was such an event. She felt it was classy and elegant. It definitely made her feel regal. Here was to hoping Charlie felt the same as she walked into the room scanning the crowd for her brother.

She made he way over to him once she finally spotted him. "Hey, sorry I'm late. I hope you weren't terribly bored without me."

He had only thrown a 'fit' because it was his sister who would be walking around this place with all her bits hanging out for everyone to see! Charlie didn't care if it was a work even or a club or their bloody house, he did not want to see Delilah in that fashion and most certainly did not want other people looking at her and ogling her and---he had every right to be concerned for her public displays of----herself.

"Incredibly," Charlie said, putting his arm out for Delilah to lead her to the table that had been set for them. He had been hounded by the press and the photographers; it was as if they were replacing Axe with him because their captain was no where to be seen. Charlie tried to answer all the questions and correctly as he could, but for the most part he smiled and laughed and thanked everyone for coming. What else could he say?

They were the champions, they were the best until next season arrived; he wasn't going to deny any of that. They were halfway to the table when a rather catchy song came on and Charlie had a change of heart. Delilah was here with him when she could be here with her boyfriend. He could at least show he appreciated the gesture and her much classier dress.

"C'mon Delly, show me some moves," he said with a grin, pulling her roughly to the dance floor.

Billie had been going back and forth with herself about whether or not she should go to the party being held tonight – a party to celebrate the end of the Quidditch season, which just so happened to be her first year in the European division. She was very excited for the chance to show what she was capable when she had been traded to the Magpies, and she hoped she had done so, but only time would tell. There was definitely a sense of anxiety that came along with wondering whether or not you were going to be traded to a different team, or dropped completely. After fighting with herself for a little while longer, she finally picked up the purple dress that had been placed on her bed, putting it on along with a pair of silver heels before making sure she looked presentable enough to leave the house.

When she arrived at the party, Billie stood on the steps and took a look at all the people – Quidditch players who had brought their friends and family to join them there. Billie had come alone, as she did to most every event, and was reminded again of why she had been thinking of not coming at all when she realized she had no idea who she was going to speak with while she was there. She was so socially awkward when placed in large groups like this, and made sure to find the nearest flute of champagne to pluck off one of the trays the waiters were carrying around. She took a long sip, and then suddenly wondered why she hadn’t invited someone to keep her company, so she didn’t feel like some awkward Hogwarts student who hadn’t been invited to the dance.

She pushed some of her hair away from her face, and then proceeded to take a second much needed sip when she noticed someone had approached her, and was standing right beside her. Trying to finish her sip more quickly, she nearly choked, and covered her mouth with the back of her other hand before clearing her throat, her cheeks a little more pink due to embarrassment.

“I didn’t even see you standing there.”

Miles gave Trimble the once over, wondering if she had learned anything during her time in Paris. The women of her team were some of the most sophisticated players he'd ever met (and some of the randiest---), so it was no wonder that this one had made her way back to the United Kingdom. Miles was feeling the urge to head back to France as it seemed that no matter what the Pride did, they would find themselves knocked out of the playoffs and right back to where they started. At least on the Bombers, he was a champion. At least on the Bombers, he was respected and not ignored at public events by the woman he was tending to and---

Bloody Arista had been swept away by Wadcock again, so Miles could not keep his anger towards one Mrs. Catriona McCormack. She had shown up to the event with that ridiculous musician husband of hers, and had dared to come up to he and Arista with the fakest of smiles, introducing Mr. Duke. She had not even taken the bastard's last name, and she was taking him to public events like this? In front of him?

He had needed to find a distraction before he lost his mind. Catriona was his and----Miles straightened, blinking a few times at Trimble before letting out a breath. "I am sorry to have startled you."

Miles forced a smile before looking back out at the crowd. Catriona was dancing with that miserable man, and he turned back to Trimble. She was pretty, well, enough so to cause that minx of his to notice him dancing with her. "You must remember the time we played against each other in the Paris Cup, no? Dance with me and I will remind you if you do not."

Victoria, she was sure, had been less thrilled about coming to this party than Mira had been -- but she couldn't very well tell her that. Bringing down Mira's mood when she finally seemed to be getting over Seth in a way that was at least moderately healthy wasn't something she could do in good conscience, and it wasn't like she was obligated to do anything here except look as good as she could sitting at a table and eating a possibly-unhealthy amount of shrimp.

She arranged the tails of the seafood on her plate and made a point of not glancing in the direction she knew Vinny was in. Yes, it had probably been better for him to figure out that they weren't going to work out before things got more serious than they had been, but that didn't mean she wanted to watch him with some other pretty blonde that looked like some sort of flawless mermaid. So far she'd been able to duck most of the press, still not the completely-familiar face that some of the other players were.

He had been not so subtly shadowing Ludo all night. Iwan had never been forced to come to one of these publicity events, so he had made sure that he did not arrive before or after his captain; it was nearly scary at how he managed to time things as perfectly as he had. But then there was this----this red carpet of just photographers and a wall you could not hide behind it was---dreadful, and he really did not know what to do other than stand there and stare at the cameras. They were shouting his name and---he needed to go back to Ballycastle. They never forced him into things like this.

It was perhaps the reason why his agent had been so eager to accept this trade. Ballycastle was a small market, it didn't have the ferocity of Wimbourne or Puddlemere, so to bring his best player to a bigger city could only be better for him. Iwan was not at all appreciative of this thinking, but he did want to win a Cup, and he was not going to do that on the Bats.

Unfortunately he had lost Ludo in the crowd, and it seemed that he would just have to hover around until he spotted other people leaving. He would not be the first to go because that would annoy his management, but second to leave wasn't so bad, was it? Iwan rooted by a nearly empty table save for a blonde woman playing with her food. He may as well look like one of the waiters with his posture and hands tucked behind his back.

This was not his kind of thing.

She would be the last person to admit it, but Marissa had gone through a whole lot of trouble to make sure that she looked perfect for tonight. It wasn't a usual thing, spending more than a few minutes on putting on some glamour charms and making sure that nobody could tell that she hadn't gotten more than a few hours' sleep the night before ... but it had been a long time since she'd really wanted to look nice for anyone. Michal wasn't nearly as high-pressure as she'd been sure a quidditch player other than Vinny would be, and the fact was that she had fun when she was around him. She was beginning to think that she was finally ready to stop being a self-centered hermit and actually start opening up to people again.

She'd thought about making some attempt to cover up her golden hand with a charm or two since she was sure that at a big party like this there was bound to be a dumb journalist who'd want all the juicy details on her grotesque deformity, but had decided against it in the end. If she ended up decking the guy, maybe it would deter all future news hounds from asking questions too. It wasn't a terrible plan, as far as plans went.

...or maybe she'd had one too many pink-and-fizzy drinks. Hm. She glanced around, attempting to figure out where Michal had wandered off to.

Michal hadn't intended to leave Marissa for as long as he had, but making sure that Seth didn't feel the need to completely drink himself into oblivion was taking longer than expected. Granted, Michal would be the first to admit they both shared the trait of thoroughly enjoying multiple good drinks, but this event did have the press present, so there was need for perhaps a bit disclosure.

Not to say that he didn't think Seth could take care of himself, but the presence of a certain ex of a thorn in his best friend's side wasn't something to be ignored. Perhaps she would show some class, and respect, and leave him alone. And that was as far as he was going to become involved with that.

Leaving a pacified Seth at the bar, he casually walked around until spotting his red-haired date. Who looked ridiculous attractive, even more than usual if that was possible. "Hey," he said, once finally approaching her.

"Are you enjoying being here? Be honest," he asked, genuinely interested. These events always created mixed results with the dates he brought.

"Another," Griffith roughly demanded of the bartender after slamming down his empty glass and making the remaining ice clatter.

Griff had been drinking firewhiskey on the rocks since he had arrived with West and West's poofy hair. With the first flash of a camera, he had excused himself to get a drink and he hadn't returned. At this point, Griff had no idea where West was in the milling crowd and he'd be pressed to recall his letters. For whatever reason, however, the barman took pity on him, or maybe he was just expecting a generous tip, and continued to serve Griff. Regardless of origin of the charity, Griff was pounding them down, attempting to get completely smashed as quickly as possible before West had the chance to observe his antics and put a stop to the binge, or worse, join in.

To put it simply: Griff was in a mood and that mood did not cater to being sober. He grumbled when a hand landed on his shoulder and gripped in a way that he knew from whom the grasp originated.

"Oy, let me drown," he muttered thickly with the edge of the glass pressed to his lip before he glanced to West with a self-loathing frown.

He knew Griffith wasn't thrilled with exactly how flamboyant his hair was, but he hadn't thought it was that bad until he'd spotted the other man drowning himself at the bar. It had taken him a few minutes to get over to the other man, and a few more minutes to calm himself down not enough to 'make a scene'. That was more Griff's department than his, after all. He'd just been trying to be 'more supportive' in general, and much of that had pushed over into his team lifestyle. He'd been trying to be a better father, to be more responsible to Griff ... and apparently that was making the other man upset.

"Why should I do that? I'm going to have to carry you home either way, it'll be easier if you're semi-conscious." And it would be less embarrassing for them both that way, as far as he was concerned.

This was, by far, the best season of Joey's life. Last year with the Magpies had been brilliant, of course, but there was a different feeling here with Kenmare. His teammates were extremely relaxed, their youth provided an outlet for Joey that he was not used to. Reserved and quiet Joey Jenkins had slowly opened up and loosened up as the year went on.

With an excited grin on his face the entire time, Joey found himself with Zoey Moran. It was probably in bad taste, but a kiss or two for the press was given, before sneaking off away from the cameras. "Can you believe it, Zo?" he asked, a sheepish grin on his face. The season was over...Joey had his second Cup win under his belt...and a beautiful girl as his date for the night. How could anything possibly be wrong with the world at that moment?

Zoey hated getting dressed up. There was really no point to it, except her sister loved it and always did her hair in all of the curly bits and red lips, even going so far as to pick out her hosery and shoes. Adamant that she could actually dress herself, it was the last moment she actually had alone. Even though she enjoyed some of the press and the perks of being famous and having a hot boyfriend, the point where she had to look pretty and dance around and most importantly, talk to people.

This is why the Kestral parties were the best, they could drink and joke around and all of the talking was fun, not stuff about food and weather or what she was planning to do if she wanted to be traded and all that stuff.

So sneaking off, even with Joey, was definitely a good thing. "Believe what? That Charlie is standing upright for the moment and being good and Axe hasn't found someone to glower at? I think?"

"Drake, you have to dance with me! You have to dance with me! DRAKE! You have to dance with me! You have to!"

As hard as she could without feeling too much of a strain, Carys tugged on her husband's hand, trying to pull him out of his chair and to his feet. It was the last party of the season, the last one they'd have to go to before they could use the excuse of 'Sorry, we have a newborn we don't know what to do with we have to stay in!' And! And she'd been pretty much cooped up since the playoffs had ended, and she liked this band and she looked pretty and...yes.

Carys huffed, standing up straight and putting her fists to her hips even though she was quite sure she looked anything but intimidating. She wasn't even wearing heels because her feet were too swollen to allow anything but ballet slippers of sorts. While she was mentally in a better place with this whole pregnancy thing, her body was still taking a beating. So she felt good enough to dance, which was rare, so her husband should give in!

Drake had really been slacking in the whole 'doting and doing whatever my pregnant wife wishes' department. Though she wasn't even allowed to joke about that because he had gone the millionth extra mile for Valentine's day.

"Drake Parkin," she said simply, eyebrows going high. "Up!"

Theo would have you believe that nothing in his relationship with Holly had changed since he suggested they get married and she didn't oppose the idea, but then he'd have you believing a lie. If anything, they had become even more domestic than before, or he was just now noticing how domestic they had become. Either way, things had changed. Theo didn't even have to find out this event himself, Holly had practically invited him to come. Not that he minded, it certainly saved him the hassle of using his resources from work to find out when and where this party was going to be held.

Although, making it to the party was exponentially harder, as it was difficult for Theo to justify walking out the door when he could keep her looking that beautiful all to himself right there in the flat. Why even bother leaving to go to the party when they both knew they were going to end the night right back where they started. What was the point of the middle when Theo was already guaranteed to take her home, but he was smart enough to keep that opinion to himself. That and he owed it to her to at least try and have a good time when it didn’t involve spending half the time convincing her that he was her date. He supposed that was part of a healthy adult relationship, they changed and grew as you went along or something stupid along those lines.

It was strange escorting Holly to this event, walking in to the ballroom together had strange (but not unwelcome) feel to it. It didn’t take him long to realized this could be just as fun too as he looked around at the other couples, easily settling into an internal monologue of judgement. Obviously he had the honor of escorting the classiest lady of the bunch. “I still haven’t quite figured out how the Kestrels qualified as a professional team, let alone win the championship.”

Things were going to be different, but only so much that Holly didn't mind it. She'd agreed to marriage, which was much more official and serious sounding than 'boyfriend and girlfriend' which she loathed. Maybe that's why any of her past 'suitors' had never gotten very far, they'd always wanted to be labeled in these titles that didn't mean anything. Theo had gotten to the point, and Holly appreciated it.

She also had every intention to show off her engagement ring, as it was much bigger than the one Willow had received last year, and she definitely was not pregnant. It was all around a better situation than the now re-instated captain of the Harpies had been in. Bless Fairburn's soul, but Holly was a Slytherin through and through and she'd never be able to beat out the competitive side of her.

Being someone's wife had never been a true thought of Holly's, but she had grown used to the idea of relying on Theo and all those other things that came along with being in a relationship. She was also very much in love with his son, and what luck! She would now be able to be a mother without actually having to sit a season out, and the boy was splendid. Really, she couldn't have asked for anything better.

"Do not remind me as to why we're actually here," Holly drawled, but her arm remained firmly looped through his, "The Kestrels are full of dumb luck and I do not wish to catch any of it." Though she eyed the cup with great desire, Holly would rather be banned from flying than admit any sort of jealousy toward the champion squad.

Veronica was still trying to get used to being at this kind of event as a guest, opposed to being someone who was hidden in the background, setting up trays of cookies and 5 tier cakes. Sure, she had been invited once or twice by Drystan and Bess, or even Griff and West, but she never felt truly comfortable standing around without a date.

This time was different though. She wasn't just there to support her brother-in-law, or Griff, or even West. No, she was there for one man in particular - a man who she only recently crossed a very big line with, which lead out of the friend zone and into the realm of dating.

Her fingers twisted behind her back as she waited at the top of the stairs, scanning over the crowd in order to find one particularly tall blonde. A smile crossed her features before she would tuck her bottom lip under her upper row of teeth - a display that meant she was excited, and made her way towards the stairs, carefully making her way down them, praying she wouldn't twist her ankle and crash to the bottom. It would have been one hell of an entrance.

She breathed out a sigh of relief when she made it down alive, and then stepped forward to where Rich was located. She waited until his eyes were on her, and her smile bloomed into something genuine, yet nervous.

"I'm not interrupting anything, am I?"
