New Years
The beginning of a New Year, a time for new hopes, new experiences to come. A time to reflect on times past, remembering fond memories happily and trying to put less pleasant thoughts and experiences in the past.

It is a time of renewal, a time of rebirth. And for much of the world, it is a time of celebration. This is no less true for the super hero set as anyone else. If anything, they just have that much bigger of things to look forward to.

Avengers/Defenders New Years

Halbjorn arrives at the Avengers mansion, this time in somewhat better spirits than last time. He's bearing gifts for a few of the residents, even if its not precisely Christmas anymore. He leaves Anya and Toni's presents on a table near the door to be discovered whenever they get around to it, then heads further into the mansion, following the smell of food and drink.

Svalin walked with her brother into the mansion. The cold weather in New York was much more suited to the Asgardians than the California weather. She carried two casks of mead, one on each shoulder, for the Avengers. The Defenders would not show up without a gift for their hosts.

More Avengers/Defenders

Anya loved New Year's. In her family it was just as big as Christmas because Russians gave their presents on New Year's and not Christmas. They would do the family stuff during the day tomorrow, but on New Year's eve they spent it with loved ones and friends.

Anya wasn't sure what Steve had planned, if anything, but there was a few hours to kill at the mansion before being at her boyfriend's mercy. She was passing by the tree when she saw gifts and she stopped to check them out. She was surprised to find one addressed to her.

Cautiously she picked it up and started to unwrap it.

Though there is no 'from' on the box, its with the other things the Defenders left, and Anya's name on it looks like it may have been written by a six year old.

What's inside is /definitely/ not from a six year old however.

The Christmas decorations had been taken down earlier that day and now the mansion was ready for the New Years' festivities.

Having once again helped lend a hand in food prep, Lyta placed a tray of cheese and crackers on the table set up in the living room.

Misha still had a sprig of mistletoe and he was going to use it until the last leaf withered and dropped. He'd cheek smooched his way around the mansion, explaining to those who hadn't known him for years that Russians celebrate their big holiday on New Year's. And hugging pretty girls was fun.

At Avengers Mansion

Daniel heard about the Defenders coming to visit the Avengers. His dad was a west coaster for a while, so getting in wasn't a big problem. That, and the Grimms knew about everyone.
As soon as he heard Simon would be visiting, he grabbed his dad's packages for him, and took off on his bike for the mansion, using a bit of super speed pedaling when he wasn't being observed to cut down on the time of the long ride.

Once he gets there he goes in search of Simon, Syd or Zoey.

Syd was keeping a low profile. The Defenders were a part of the life and were outgoing, making them fit in. Syd was quiet, shy and liked quiet. She shadowed Zoey, but didn't interfere.

Daniel had been working on sprucing up some of the decorations that had been made from cut greens. He had learned how to make them perk up for a limited amount iof time so rather than Jarvis having them replaced Daniel was doing a little bit of magic. He was trying to not be obvious about it either since he didn't want it to gt undone by anyone who had the magical know how to do it.

But he was pleased with his work. He had heard that some of the Defenders had some magic to them aside from beings gods so he wondered if they would notice what he had done.

Avenger's Mansion

Valeria arrived at the Avenger's Mansion, dressed in the new dress that she'd bought earlier that day. James had invited her to spend New Years Eve with him (and, by default, the Avengers), so that was what she intended to do. Val made her way into the mansion, keeping an eye peeled for James.

Mason had spent most of the afternoon on the phone with his parents, talking about highlights of the previous year, and spending a particular amount of time talking to just his Dad about his date with Marrina.

As the evening rolls around, he joins the rest of the team in the rec area, wishing them all a pre-emptive happy New Year.

Kal hovered in the air over Times Square. The Crossroads of the World was packed with revelers and media, but she stayed well out of the thick of things. She loved the excitement and energy of the crowd, but she hated being in the crowd.

Jack wasn't a crowd person either. He had a spot on a rooftop looking down at the mass of people waiting for the ball to drop. Dressed in gray-black with the hood, he blended into the shadows where his senses could take in the party atmosphere without being overloaded. Every so often, he waved in Kal's direction to let her know he was still there and okay.

Nick and Val did stop by, leaving work for a short time. Even the spy couple needed some downtime. Not to mention it gave Nick a chance to keep first hand tabs on some of the troublemakers.
